Wow! what a jewel. this is our fourth visit to Iissabon, but the first time here it will not be the last. Live music pulled us in, but eating was the best I ever had. interesting, beautiful to see and only amazing aromen. the otopus was like butter. the waiter was brilliant, let us just enjoy our meal while we heard the Fab musician. great night. apologise tho, so busy talking about our evening, we realized when we back to our apartment that none of us left the tipp! next time we'll be double!
I have kept up here for my one night in Iissabon and was not disappointed. the waiting staff was attentive and informative about eating and crying. I started with the garnish appetizer and recommended to accompany white wine, the wee was wonderful and. that was good. the pork and the salate were excellent as the red wine. the evening meal was served with a mixture of delicious broth.
Having visited this restaurant a couple of times in August, and having had wonderful meals on both occasions, I rushed back as soon as I returned to Lisbon. Sadly, those experiences were not to be repeated. I won’t go into too much detail, but both...my starter and main course were hugely disappointing. Both were poorly crafted and executed. In fact, I left most of my main. Whilst I am prepared to accept that some of the issues could be put down to personal taste, some were absolutely down to the kitchen, in technique and presentation. Little touches were also missing. On previous visits the bread came with a selection of herb butters. This time, the bread was served with no oil or butter at all. When I asked for butter, some cold, unsalted butter was brought...after quite some time. It was only when I enquired about the herb butters that they eventually materialised. I’m grateful to the chef for taking time to come to my table to discuss the problems with me. He’s is clearly passionate and conscientious, and it is quite likely that I was just unlucky on this occasion. What irks me most though, is that when the bill came, the only compensation for this thoroughly disappointing experience, and the fact that I left hungry, was that my espresso had been taken off the bill. Now, I hate the culture of people trying to obtain discounts on meals by complaining (I used to own a restaurant myself), and I am far from a cheap person! I would usually rather just pay without a fuss and not revisit. However, it should have been obvious that it was not my objective simply to save money. I had clearly not enjoyed the meal, hadn’t even eaten quite a bit of it, and had calmly explained why to both the servers and the chef. Simply taking an espresso off the bill was quite insulting. Even a glass of wine would have been a nice gesture, but really at least one of the dishes should have been comped. It showed a real lack of understanding and empathy, and frankly I feel ripped off. I paid good money for a substandard product. When I expressed this to the server (having already paid not angling for discount she simply replied, coldly, ‘I am just doing my job’. To disregard customer feedback in this way comes across as arrogant and uncaring. It’s a shame, as I’ve said, this place was previously a real favourite of mine in Lisbon.
“O Ato” is looked like is perfect choice for dinner (breakfast or lunch in a very central location. It was just perfect stop near by main square Rossio (100 meters from two metro stations after we had city tour. This place is easy to find, behind the D.Maria theater and on the left side from to Red Palace (Portuguese Historical society , both worth to visit too. Do not loose your time browsing into busy and noisy restaurant street farther. You will not be disappointed if stop in much quite place with friendly staff, very reasonable menu prices and perfect Portuguese fusion food. I really enjoyed food (meat was fantastic and ATO´s atmosphere: window people watching, Portuguese music, air condition inside and watering terrace outside. Bonus was the only free parking yard left in downtown Lisbon (ask the manager Romao to help you!!! .
