The waitress spoke perfect English, the portions were a bit small, but the food was well cooked. We drank a Porca de murcas wine (which was OK) and local beer (Super Bock or Sagres).

Cod smells as fresh as a decomposing rat. These guys changed their name to Chiado Garden, I wonder why.Told the waiter the fish was spoilt, he smelt it, said "no, it 's ok. The point is to cook it less. "Well, that 's not a reason why the fish smelt like it was kept in his grandma 's basement for a week without refrigerationAvoid to save your life

It should be noted, this place has now changed their name to Chiado Garden. Presumably to avoid their bad google rating. The hot sauce was excellent, very spicy, unlike some places where they say it’s spicy and then it’s really just watered down Tabasco. As far as the food goes, I reckon I’ll be lucky if my head isn’t in a toilet bowl within the next 6 hours. Honestly, don’t get the cod plate. Or the pineapple salmon. Or the burger. Actually, save yourself money time and health and STAY AWAY. The waiters were friendly and the boiled potatoes and bread with cheese were OK.

Our last night in Portugal, shortly after returning from Porto, we decided to find a place to eat and ended at Callassa Café. We have a nice bottle of Douro, my wife ordered the pig dog we enjoyed and I got the Indian style shrimps. The rice wasn't great, but that was the only thing I mean. Our waiter, Gil (Pronounced Jill), was wonderful. He really took care of us and was too happy to tell us about the origins of some menu items, wines, etc. He was just a total treasure. He stepped up the first bottle of wine and asked which of us wanted to taste it. If you're in wine, you'll know what I'm talking about... He pours the taste for my wife while we 're chatting and I see that he passes his thumb over the inside of the cork and thus he stops everything. "I apologize. I'll get you another bottle. "Sugar. Gil got it, so we didn't have to. Sometimes it's the big things. Most often it is the little ones, these moments of pure experience, the way you don't even know happens that make the difference. Oh! And for Dessert we had the Portuguese equivalent of Crème brûlée, which they flame at the table. That was read!

With all the thousands of restaurants in lissabon, how do they choose? the menu should not be too identical to the others, and it must feel good. we had that with the gallassa. not too big, tables or so, and most. they are full. we definitely enjoyed it. the various portions of bacalhao is a must eat.
