Food very good. Fado very good Service very good. A lovely room. I am starting to discount nasty reviews. I think some people enjoy tearing things down.
We went for the fado which was ok if a bit lacking in energy. Food and drink were expensive to cover the cost of the fado singers. Food was unexceptional and generally the evening was all a bit flat compared to other fado evenings I have been to. Not really an authentic evening just a touristic flytrap.
I did read the earlier reviews where there was moaning of low standard food, expensive prices, and this and that. My expectations for food were then understandably low, but were exceeded easily. The food is simple and it goes well with the restaurant interior that probably has been the same since the 70’s maybe even 60’s So you dont serve portions that look line 2020’s in a place like that if someone was expecting that. I think the food was quite good, how it looks, it is fairly simple, true, but our dinner with nice wine was good. Prices naturally are bit high, but that as well has to be understood, 4 fado singers and 2 guitar players, they are not for free. I didnt mind paying knowing that. 2 person, one bottle of wine (34ish eur), many bottles of water, shared appetizers and desert. I think reasonable. Service was polite, nothing to complain. In at 20:10, out at around 23:30, so quite a bit music as well. I think music started at 21:00. All in all, I cannot agree with the people saying the food was not good, it was good. Fado, well not an expert obviously, but fulfilled our expectations. Why only 3 points then? It is always difficult to rank very different restaurants, it could have been 4 as well, but was left to 3, food is good, but perhaps not quite 4 star worth, and the restaurant premises are dated, which might though be in purpose giving the desired ”old days”-feeling.
This place is far away of being traditional Fado place. Too much turistic. The food is a kind of mixture of modern with very litle of Portuguese cousine. The prices are too expensive, mainly acording to what you get. For the one who are looking to have a traditiona Fado night with good Portuguese food and not overpricided, look for another place.
