I stayed at the #LazyLoft Hostel which sits above the restaurant, and enjoyed Happy Hour 2-for-1 cocktails twice a day, as well as the good food... all for a decent price. My entire plate of the popular Pollo en salsa Caribeña con arroz y frijoles was filling for 3900 Colones (approx $8 USD). Some of the best food I 've tasted so far was from the restaurants in Puerto Viejo, but I love island food. Stanford 's restaurant is literally on the Caribbean sea with breathtaking views of the forests and coastline. Even during the rainy off-season I enjoyed perfect temperatures and nightly parties. My three days and two nights at the hostel, were mostly spent lounging on the beach, casually walking the cute costal town, or in my ocean-view private room; less than $25 nightly in June. Although, it doesn 't hurt to leave a tip for great service, even if it 's just 500 Colones which is only about a dollar.
