This time I went for a Ceviche del Escondite a large Medley of seafood and fish in a very fresh and tasty ceviche. The friend who suggested the restaurant asked a dish that was not in the menu, a Ceviche de Pulpo in an aji amarillo sauce that was great. The dishes were big enough to be a single dish lunch. The service and the ambience were great. This classic San Isidro restaurant is a great alternative to great food at very affordable prices.
It is an excellent option for traditional cevicherias. Many different options. Amazing preparation, very good flavors. Nive Coca Sour. Totally recommended.
The dishes are large, the service is fast and they have variety. They have several branches, they have specialties of rice, pasta and a dish that includes a tasting of several Peruvian delicacies. We order the cold duck containing causa, ceviche, rice and fried fish. The filled red pepper was good together with the sauce, but the potatoes were terrible. We also ordered a Parihuela, a seafood soup filled with crabs, fish, octopus and squid. In the end we ordered the steam fish that was not delicious at all. The chicha (pineapple and purple corn drink) was very fresh.
Before my last trip to Lima I did some research about restaurants that I never went before and this “El escondite del Gordo” (i.e. “The hiding of the fat man” was included in my list. From the beginning I had a good impression when the waiter brought the classic free appetizer Canchita (fried Peruvian corn). The corn was big and fried at the right point and not greasy, that was a good signal that the cook was a good one. (Other restaurants do not worry too much what canchita they serve. I ordered “Choros a la chalaca” (Marinated Mussels the shells were really fresh, it made me remember old times when I had eaten this dish on the beach. My son ordered “Causa de atun” (Mash potatoes with tuna and mayonnaise, my sister ordered “Arroz con Mariscos” (travel with seafood, my wife ordered “Milanesa de pescado” (Milanese fish and I ordered “Rocoto relleno de Mariscos” (Peruvian Rocoto Chili filled with seafood). We tried court and all were excellent. For drinking we had Lemonade and Chicha morada (refreshment of purple corn). These dishes are classic Peruvian seafood and I recommend this place to everyone. The service was very good and the waiter deserved a good tip. You have several locations, I went to one in the city of San Borja
