Bruno's - LIGHTNING RIDGE
Bruno's
Description
Bruno’s offers a wide array of dishes, from exceptional breakfasts to delightful dinners, garnering praise for its fresh ingredients and flavorful meals. However, the dining experience can be inconsistent, plagued by service delays, errors in orders, and frustrated staff interactions. While many customers enjoyed their meals and commended the friendly service, others reported disappointing experiences with forgotten orders and unaccommodating management. Despite these setbacks, the food quality often shines through, leading some patrons to return frequently. For a mixed culinary adventure, Bruno’s presents both high points and considerable challenges. Reservations are advisable to manage larger groups.

We made a reservation well in advance for a party of 33, agreeing on a per-person price for a two-course alternate drop service to expedite the meal. Upon arrival, we were seated in a cramped back room with poor ventilation and assigned a young waiter who, while well-meaning, lacked experience and didn’t understand the meaning of “alternate drop” (which wasn't his fault). As a result, I ended up assisting with the waiting to ensure things were done correctly. The food service took over 1.5 hours, as they were serving one meal at a time with significant delays in between. Their excuse for the slow service was that they were busy. If they didn’t have the capacity to accommodate our group, they shouldn’t have accepted our booking in the first place. The manager on duty was rather rude and kept shifting the blame to an absent owner. I would not return with a group after this experience. On a positive note, when the food finally did arrive, it was quite enjoyable. Overall, I would rate the food: 4, service: 2, atmosphere: 2.
I typically only dine at restaurants with ratings above 4.5, but given the late hour in this town, our options were limited. Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was here; I think their current rating doesn't reflect the quality. We tried the ravioli and gnocchi dishes, and they were fantastic. Overall, I would rate the food a 5, the service a 5, and the atmosphere a 4.
Staff have serious issues with the front of house Woman who was snapping and barking orders at young staff who were eye rolling, pulling faces at her, side glances between staff, really unprofessional. The young boy who tried to serve me but was told off by front of house woman (for trying to serve me on the second register) was lovely, he had great manners, knew how to use the register system and didn’t let her attitude faze him.j The young boy gets 5/5 stars for his service.
