While in New Cross dropping off our daughter at Goldsmiths, we stumbled upon The Old Haberdasher for Sunday Lunch and were pleasantly surprised. We tried three different dishes from the menu, including the Sunday Roast, and all were excellent. The addition of real ale only added to the experience. This is a great transformaiton of the former Rosemary Branch great food drink to match the very impressive new decor littered with various haberdashery food pictures around the place. Nice to see a small home grown business with a real chef in the kitchen that truly cares about quality. Best of luck to them!
The Old Haberdasher is next to Goldsmiths and was the premises of 'The Rosemary Branch. ' Menus include some nicely done sea food dishes. Restaurant owners is hands-on in the kitchen and knows how to serve good simple food well. Staff are attentive, friendly and readily keep customers like me well supplied with the real ale on offer. Prices are reasonable and we were attracted back there for a second visit shortly after the first. One of the best finds in New Cross/New Cross Gate area.
As a nearby resident of this bar, I truly wanted to enjoy it. I had hoped it would become my go-to spot, but unfortunately, I have decided to give up on it. The menu is unexciting, mainly featuring burgers, the staff is incredibly unfriendly, and there are very few other patrons. It's the type of place where if you have a complaint, it's somehow your fault - like not reading the menu properly or ordering the wrong cocktail. The 2 for 1 cocktail offer doesn't apply to the drink you chose from the list, you should have ordered a different one. Oh well, onwards and upwards, right?
The food at this restaurant is average, but if you're looking for a quality cocktail, you won't find much better in the area. The prices are a bit high, but that's what happy hour is for!
