The bac... read more We both chose the cheeseburger with fries and a drink. Burger was very juicy and tasty, fries were well salted and you were given free ketchup and mayo. The backdrop of the mountain outside speaks for itself. 43.80 CHF for two menus is completely fine. Price-performance is definitely right. The only drawback: the Sprite was past its expiry date by a month and tasted a bit bland. Otherwise really recommended!!

Those restaurants that were, were traditional Swiss Stübli with heavy dishes like Rös... read more On a sleepy summer Wednesday in Leukerbad, very little was open for lunch. Those restaurants that were, were traditional Swiss Stübli with heavy dishes like Rösti, Raclette, Schnitzel, or really unimaginative salads with way too much oily dressing. We looked for a cafe or bakery with some cakes and savoury options, but nothing except one cafe that had only a small selection of sweet cakes. The local supermarket had only insipid looking sandwiches on plastic bread. We were doomed to starvation. Then Gilji's came to the rescue with a small but modern menu of burgers, pita's and hotdogs, importantly including vego options for the burgers and pitas. My partner and I had the gourmet hotdog which went down a treat, but the burgers and pita's also looked great. My only complaint is that I could have happily eaten two of those dogs. The actual hot dog was a little too much like a weiner (thin without much in the way of herbs/spices), but the toppings made up for it. Gilji's has a pop-up feel to it. There are very few seats inside, but there's plenty of public benches outside to chow down on. Some folks complained that it was cash only, but my recent memory was paying by card, so perhaps they've got card facilities now. Service was punctuary but efficient. We only waited about 5 minutes.
