The staff was friendly and helpful and the surprise was the table-side salsa service to make fresh salsa to taste/heat. The steaks Arrichera were delicious and prices most reasonable. Will return.
We dodged raindrops to walk here from our hotel. My colleague and I speak very little spanish, and no one really spoke english at the restaurant. We decided to stay, since it was again pouring outside. I ordered a new york strip steak, and my friend ordered the Chicken Fajitas. Since we didn't speak spanish, we didn't know what to ask about sides. I received what appeared to be a bean and hot dog soup with my steak. The steak was pretty tough, but I finished it. I also had a Picadillo y res empanada, which was good. The highlight, however, was when one of the servers came around with a cart of fresh ingredients and made us a salsa. We had trouble conveying that I didn't like very spicy, but she seemed to understand. We got to choose the ingredients, and she even added some jalapeno juice. I tried it, and LOVED it. It was so tasty and not spicy at all.
This restaurant is near the hotel we were staying at. The last time we ate here we had a pretty good meal. That was last year. It was New Year's Eve and so we went in the afternoon to try to make a reservation. We live in Mexico and usually manage fairly well with our limited Spanish. We told him we wanted a reservation, the time we planned to come and our names. But, we could not understand anything of what he said, that is highly unusual for us. After dancing with this guy for quite a while, and getting nowhere, I suggested we carry on with our day. We did come back close to 8 o'clock as we said we would. There was almost no one in the place but the woman at the door did not want to admit us. The guy from the afternoon remembered my name and told her it was okay. We knew that they had a set menu. Which it turned out was pretty good. We had a nice apple salad, a decent mushroom soup, filet mignon smothered in mushrooms and some veggies on the side and a decent little desert. The price was two to three times what we would normally pay and we found out later by watching other diners that we could have ordered straight from the menu. But, the big problem was after we were seated and confirmed that we would go with the set menu, we ordered a glass of wine. One and a half hours later we were still waiting for any sign of food. When I called the waiter over and asked when we would be served he seemed very surprised and suddenly our 4 courses started being served. They had a pretty good small band with nice Mexican sound. We might try this again on a non-holiday night.
