Reviews - Crafthouse

#9 - Vegetarian - Leeds, British, Modern Cuisine

Reviews summary

Crafthouse sits high above Leeds in the Trinity Centre, earning praise for its food quality, creative menu and rooftop atmosphere while drawing repeated attention to inconsistent service. Many guests rave about standout dishes — starters, desserts and cocktails frequently get compliments — and several reviewers highlight attentive servers who made visits memorable. However, multiple accounts report slow or curt service, menu items unexpectedly unavailable, billing mistakes and an occasionally overcrowded, loud dining room that can feel cramped. Overall, Crafthouse is recommended for drinks, starters and special-occasion dining when service is on form, but some guests advise caution around busy nights and suggest confirming menu availability and set-menu details in advance.

My boss brought me and a colleague here to celebrate a great achievement at work. I had the spiced mussel flat bread for starters and the baked cod loin for mains. I was too full for pudding. The restaurant is beautiful. The staff are attentive but not overbearing and the food was delicious! Deffo will come again.

We came on a Monday for our anniversary, and Eve was fantastic. She wished us a happy anniversary as soon as we sat down, and then was very knowledgeable about all the food and drinks and answered all of the questions we had, and recommended us a brilliant wine. She was then very attentive and filled up our wine and water without having to ask, and always stopped to talk to us to ask us about ourselves and was incredibly friendly. The food was outstanding (we had the chicken and the rump steak

Would also like to say a big thank you to the team for making me feel so welcome and for putting me in a place where there was space for my pram.

Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t have any. I made a booking for drinks and it was very lively and full. You couldn’t hear each other over the music which was too loud for the type of venue. We were seated at a table for 4 (3 of us). There were two more tables of 4 behind us. 6 or so people sat on one and 8/10 the other. A member of staff had to move our table because it was getting so crowded and chairs were being moved. It got very loud and claustrophobic. I asked to move outside or at least to another table because it was too crowded and the staff were offstandish and curt. We were eventually moved outside to finish our drinks by the manager (1 was enough). Whilst we were sat there for 10/15 mins two staff members came over and told us they needed tomhe table back, one was quite rude. Clearly more interested in packing the place to the rafters rather than creating a pleasant ambience and environment. Won’t be back.

Lovely food as always! We opted for the cheeseburger and chips and the chicken dish, with a sticky toffee pudding for dessert!

I was really disappointed with the service. We ordered bread, which took 40 minutes to arrive at our table. I ordered off the set menu and my friend ordered off the a la carte menu. Our starters were shortly served after the bread which was annoying as we were both hungry and could have done with the bread coming out a lot sooner. My starter was wrong so we had to wait an extra 15 minutes for that to be corrected. The bill came and we had to send the bill back 3 times after errors that we spotted. They didn’t apply the set menu offer for my meal, they charged me what it would have cost on the a la carte menu. They charged me for the wine, which was again part of the set menu deal. They put the wrong starter on the bill, it was embarrassing having to correct them and to repeat ourselves so many times to amend the bill. This being said, we refused to pay the 12.5% service charge. The food was delicious but the service and mistakes really let our experience down

I celebrated my 21st birthday in the private dining room at this restaurant, and I was impressed by the excellent service and atmosphere of the place. The food was amazing and all of the staff were very attentive. We were able to use an aux cord to play our own music, felt well taken care of, and the courses were served promptly. Gabriela was extremely kind in organizing the meal, answered any questions or concerns we had, and was extremely accommodating to any last-minute changes. I would highly recommend this restaurant, as there were no complaints whatsoever about the food or service.

We went to Crafthouse for Afternoon Tea on a Sunday afternoon. This was my second time here, my first time wasn't a great experience but I thought I'd give them benefit of the doubt and give them another shot. Unfortunately the service was identical. We were seated promptly and staff seemed friendly enough. Drinks from the menu took a further 15 or so minutes to arrive, with our Afternoon Tea (or at least part of it) arriving another 20-30 minutes after that. That was the last time we were attended to by any staff. The food itself was nice, however we weren't offered tea. This was the same experience we had last time we attended. We'd already been at our table quite some time when we'd finished food and couldn't wait any longer so just asked for the bill. Given our bill came to almost £100 with the added gratuities, charity donations and other upcharges, and given our Afternoon Tea didn't come with tea (I mean it's in the name), and given this was the second time this has happened, I can confidently say we won't be going back to Crafthouse. Very overpriced for the service that you receive. I've had cheaper, far nicer Afternoon Tea at Fortnum Mason! It even came with tea!

Absolutely fantastic afternoon tea, we were given it as a Christmas present off our daughter. 100% recommended this place. Such a nice touch that it was not just sandwiches, also had hot food, see my pictures everything was fresh and tasty. The cake selection was amazing too delicious scones with jam cream. I like lots on mine, the staff happily supplied me with more! We had free flowing prosecco for 1.5hrs too, our glass was never empty..staff very attentive!! Would definitely recommend The Crafthouse, I think the best Afternoon Tea I have had. Thank you

What can I say? The service was amazing!! Eve and Laurie were great!! Eve is this bubbly and smiley character that made my day happier and brighter. Laurie was this cool suave type which is needed for this type of restaurant. Anyways, aside from that the food was ok though such a shame that I couldn’t add another patty to my cheeseburger. My parents ate a whole lobster, the grilled aubergines and the pork chop in one swoop, because the food was delicious : The views though at night was great and I do love the decor!!! Definitely coming back though, when I am not in London, Oxford or traveling the world.

We 'd been meaning to go to Crafthouse for a while and finally managed it for a Sunday lunch on a blustery Sunday the offer was very reasonable compared to some prices £25 for 2 courses. We came up in the private elevator from the road a nice touch; but then were left waiting in a corridor for 5 minutes whilst staff rushed around a half full dining room, then taken straight to our seats in the bar side of the restaurant we would have had a view of Boar lane and South Leeds if the blinds across the windows hadn 't;t all been fully down I can appreciate there would have been some glare earlier in the day, but the sun had already set when we arrived and so half our view was of greige. Service was a bit 'by the numbers ' there was a set order they worked in and we wouldn 't be allowed to order food at the same time as a drink even though we were ready. Starters were OK cured salmon was tasty and well presented, though the accompanying slice of brioche looked a little mean and unevenly toasted; the prawn cocktail was very salty prawns with a limp and tired salad and not enough Marie Rose. Mains were where it all fell apart we were offered beef or lamb either well done or pink and both settled on well, as medium was not allowed; Both meats arrived rare, and though tasty were very tough and gristly cuts, with a lot of visible fat around and through the meat. Veg were OK, though didn 't;t feel particularly freshly cooked. With a (very good) rum old fashioned at £18 the total came to £76 including a 12.5% service charge. Ambiance was noisy, with some dance ish music a bit too loud for my tastes perhaps closing the door on the very noisy group in the glassed off 'private ' dining room would have helped. I 'm glad we went, but there are much better options for the price, or less don;t think we 'll return.

Went for afternoon tea with a voucher from our birthday. They made us feel like we was second best to paying customers on the day. Only asked us if we wanted tap water with our food. When we asked for a warm drink we was waiting ages. The food was very tasteless. Totally left to feel ignored and ripped off. Would 100% not go back for afternoon tea. I’ve bought better at supermarkets.

I had booked my table for 8pm, but when we arrived our table wasn’t ready, so we were seated in the lounge. No one took a drinks order for us and my husband stood at the bar for 15 minutes with no one noticing he was there. Someone then came and took us to our table, without a drink. We sat down and were given our menus, we were given what the waitress said was a wine menu, it wasn’t it was another food menu. I tried on numerous occasions to get the waitress’ attention, one waitress completely blanked me, so I had to get up and go to the bar area and ask for a wine menu. The waitress came and told us they had run out of lobster but they had everything else. We ordered a bottle of wine, and some drinks, then the waitress came to take our wine glasses, when we stopped her to remind her we’d ordered wine, she said she thought we only ordered a glass (the bottle we ordered couldn’t be ordered by the glass When she came back to take our order I ordered the stone bass, the waitress then came back and said they had run out of stone bass, but had everything else. I then changed my order to have chateaubriand with my husband with a side of carrots (because there were no other veg options! and triple cooked chips with a red wine sauce. A different waitress came over and asked us to clarify our starters, then the original waitress came back and told us they had run out of triple cooked chips!! Our starters arrived, my sister had the soup and whilst she was eating it found a long hair in it. The chateaubriand arrived without the red wine sauce, we then had to chase the sauce as we were half way through our steak and it still hadn’t arrived. All in all the whole dining experience was shambolic. The service was absolutely shocking and I feel very very disappointed that we waisted our money eating at your restaurant. To run out of the majority of your mains is unbelievably terrible, and how on earth can you by 20:30 on a Saturday night have run out of triple cooked chips?!
