Madame, the owner, is gracious and graceful and tends to her Inn as an artist who loves her craft. Everything about our stay was pleasing, especially the comfortable bed, the generously sized room and the extremely delicious dinner.....but even more, we will forever remember and cherish our delightful chats with Madame and her staff who made us feel most welcome and "at home". Merci Beaucoup!Stayed June 2015, travele... View all feedback.
What Isabella Patel doesn't like about L'Auberge du Choucas:
I have been meaning to try this restaurant for a long time and what a disappointment it was. Firstly, we were the only table so the atmosphere was non existent and the decor needs to be freshen up. More importantly, the food... i can see that they are trying to use local food and make it more elegant but it simply doesn't work. I can cook better food myself! A real shame for a 4-star establishment and i can't believe... View all feedback.
This review is for the NOTTING GILL CHIPPY* pop up restaurant at the Kensington Place.
Great mealVery open, airy, and light restaurantFresh fish and seafoodI had the marinated shrimp and octopus saladVery nice.
Lots of different delicious kind of dishes. Very good wine and of course very kindly staff and owner.
I am a bit surprised by the mixed reviews as I personally had an excellent experience. The vaulted room is superb, not dated, it does not need to be contemporary everywhere. The service is indeed a bit old fashioned but passed well with the whole experience, up to the removal of the silk with the special tool which was a bit over the top and made us burst in laughter. The food is absolutely excellent, the service very professional and attentive. It is rare to find these days but a delight when it happens. We had great foie gras and I personally had one of the best if not the best lamb I have ever had. It was juicy, baked in a pastry spiked with poppy seed and an absolute delightful combination in mouth. Dessert was very good. Portions were generous, if not too big, but we were told that they need to cater to hikers who need their fuel. We only hiked up and down Briancon so did not need much, but would have welcomed this whole gargantuesque meal had we done so.The owner came twice during the meal to check upon us, so did the young chef at the end. There were only 3-4 tables as we were out of season, but we did not feel lonely nor overwhelmed by idle service staff. Overall an excellent experience I can only recommend to anyone in the region.
I do not enjoy ski stations which look like touristic industries. The Auberge is located in the heart of authentic village, close to all shops. The atmosphere , the decoration in this old building is timeless. The room are adequate, every single meal is superb and the service is friendly and very efficient. We really appreciated the meals served in a beautiful dining room with an open fire. Specific award is given for the fantastic cheese plate associated with the large choice of wines that you can not find easily in other places.
