What User doesn't like about Restaurante Milpa:
We had a dinner for my friends' birthday. The food, presentation and service were good, but for a dinner in this price class we expected a bit more. The tasting menu is not yet part of the standard menu, so things can change when it is. We were with two people and paid $270 in total $140 5 course tasting, $85 half glass wine pairing, $8 water and $37 standard tip). We liked the food and the presentation, the lady served us was excellent. I don't like complaining, but the things that dinner didn't make great in the price class were: The courses were served quickly in succession, we did not finish the drinks and the other course was already served. Later we found out there was a group that came a little later, so that was probably the reason. For the first four courses we had to use the same fork. I left it on my board after the first course, but it was said to put it on the table again. Wine tastes good, but as I said, glasses were only half full.
Our tasting menu 5 course meals with wine pairing were brilliantly executed. My husband had the Lobster Tasting Menu which did not disappoint in the least. Each dish was absolutely delicious with a creative and beautiful marriage of unique flavors and ingredients. Each plate presented was gorgeous. Haute Cuisine at it’s finest. Chef Barajas is a true artist and super talented. This meal was one of the many highlights of our trip to Holbox.
Came here as a returning customer, 4 years after our initial visit. The service is wonderful and attentive, the food is presented in the most creative way we’ve seen on the island and is unique and delicious. Don’t let the empty restaurant fool you when you walk past, everyone is hiding out in the garden at the back (make sure you bring some big spray). We opted for the 5 course seasonal menu and it was all great. I saw a couple of reviews calling the food bland which I think is unfair. Whilst not every course is a “flavour exploration” the creativity is next to none and everything is delicious. Each course somehow tastes comforting. Would highly recommend. You may need to book in advance.
The restaurant was almost empty when we were there. When we got the bill I understood why. We had the prix fixe menu for MXN950, and added the wine pairing. Stupidly we did not ask the price for the wine pairing, which was a shocking and ridiculous amount of money, about USD60 for four glasses of wine. The bill per person was about USD115 per person, which was absolutely exorbitant. Unless you're ready to pay Manhattan prices, you should look elsewhere.
