Universal Snacks - Laredo
Universal Snacks
Description
Despite a clean space and friendly staff, this snack spot struggles with overpriced items, inconsistent quality and freshness, and questionable practices like removed menu prices and missing receipts. Customers report dry meats, tough bread, oily funnel cakes, off-flavored cheese, generic chocolate syrup and even rotten fruit. Service is cordial but doesn’t rescue the flavor or value; buy only for convenience and avoid perishable or premium items.

I had a craving for something sweet, so I asked the young man at the counter for a recommendation. He suggested Fresas con crema and assured me that the strawberries were fresh. However, when I got home, I discovered that the strawberries were badly rotten and soggy. I ended up throwing away nearly $7 for a small cup. Please be honest with your customers.
I stopped by for some corn in a cup and nieve de garrafa, and I wasn't disappointed at all.
Today, I returned to place that same order, but naturally, the younger employee was there, and he charged me extra once again. I questioned him about it and showed him my receipt from the previous week. He tried to explain, then went to talk to the kitchen staff. When I got home, I realized what he had told them: my order was not the same as I had always received. It was noticeably smaller, to the point that my wife couldn't finish her meal and left half of it because it didn't taste right. Before I could voice my concerns, she said, "Let’s not go there anymore." I share this experience as a clear example for business owners of how an employee's actions can lead a long-time customer to seek out a competitor.
The service was decent, but the quality of the food left much to be desired. The meat was dry, and the bread was tough. It seems like they don't have enough turnover to keep everything fresh.
