Contribute Feedback What Patrickenfrance doesn't like about Chez Gilles:
Nothing special about Gilles Tortay at all, other than its location in the chuch square. Average food at a fair price, average service. Value for money as they do not overcharge. Definitely one to consider for a light three-course lunch outdoors in the sunshine (or shade). Maybe not ideal for evening meals unless it's summer, as indoors is as basic as the food. Great food, great location, original dishes and nice salad bar, however, our waitress tried to over charge us to the point of being ridiculous –
This place was very good, and a good buy, the locals call it the restaurant by the church but anyway, I recommend it highly!
I've been taking my parents for a first try of French cuisine and I was so happy to find is amazing place. Menu is for 15,50 eur and you have a chance to choose between 3 entree and 5 main dish 5 desserts. Food is fresh, its one of those typical French restaurants which dont take a customer one after another but have a very warm welcoming and personal attitude for each of them. You need to come in time and during summer days I believe better call and make a reservation, we were happy to catch a last table. In France food is a main part of the culture and if you dont want just random tourist restaurant but to feel on your skin how actually french people enjoying their cuisine you diffenetly have to try it. With love from Czech republic to owners and thank you for leaving a warm impression for my parents as a first experience in a typical French restaurant! <3
We sat inside for lunch as it was a dull day. An eclectic mix of decorations with a fish tank of goldfish on the counter. These were the family pets and not the fish of the day!! We had the 2 course fixed price menu and it was ok, nothing special. The house wine was also palatable, service was friendly but there was no choice for dessert (except take it or leave it) as it was by now after 1p.m. It was ile flottante my husband cannot stand cold custard so I had to finish it off. It was no hardship. The meal was good value for money but if it's fine dining you're after then this is not the place for you.
After a late arrival at 14h, we were freshly welcomed, proposing to go elsewhere if it was a problem for them a large table...to lunch on the terrace, relatively fast service. the served dishes and the desserts made home a slaughter. reasonable meal at 15 euros dessert flat entrance.
