What User doesn't like about The Sun Of Camberwell:
I walked into this establishment and what can I say? I’ll tell what I can say, so astonishingly average it made me shed a tear, only one tear, as my sadness was replaced with anger, not just the sort of anger you feel when you get a parking ticket, the sort of anger you get when you don’t get a Guinness in an appropriate glass. It’s all style and no substance, mustard yellow walls and spaced out yuppie tables. Ps toi... View all feedback.
As a solo traveller, I had dinner here a couple of times. Even though the place was generally quite busy, I didn't need to wait much time for my food. Loved their gravy, which makes their bangers and mash a real winner. Also loved their potato and coleslaw salad. The music and decoration are quite good and I was attended by friendly staff every time.
I'm not generally a fan of chain pubs particularly the chain beginning with W), but this venue is part of the Antic chain, a smallish London chain whose pubs do have a certain common feel about them, yet they have a great pub atmosphere and retain a good deal of individuality. Close to King's College Hospital and about five minutes walk from Denmark Hill Station, this place is well worth a visit. As well as a cracking pub atmosphere they have a great range of ales and an excellent food menu not huge, but interesting options and the food is definitely a cut above standard pub grub and reasonably priced for London. We thoroughly enjoyed the Beef Short Rib £16) followed by an excellent Sticky Toffee Pudding £6). Despite some of the comments placed on this forum, we found the service to be excellent, although it should be said they were not very busy at the time.
The roast dinner did not meet my expectations, I will not be returning to eat here again. However, I would give it 2 stars as a decent pub with a nice outdoor seating area for drinks.
We tried the bangers and mash at this restaurant and it was delicious. Adele provided excellent service. The pub's interior showcased all of its original Victorian features.
The service at this restaurant was terrible. The manager did not allow staff behind the bar, so we had to wait for table service. Despite being short-staffed, having only two people with iPads was extremely slow. It took over an hour to get a drink, and it would have been much quicker if the bar had remained open. This is the worst pub I have ever been to, and we were all very thirsty.
