No initiative from our waiter to offer more drinks or even a dessert menu. We literally had to beg to order desserts. How odd? Nevertheless an exceptional meal and we'll be back for more! The signs were good, this is a quaint-looking restaurant in Claremont that always looks packed and previous attempts to get a table were unsuccessful, so it was a nice surprise to hear they had a space for the two of us on a Tuesday night . I really wish it had been full. We ordered the rocket and Springbok carpaccio salad to share and my partner ordered the spinach and ricotta ravioli while I had the spaghetti and meatballs( usually a safe bet in any popular Italian restaurant) The carpaccio salad was a prime example of what can go wrong if you simply put all your expensive ingredients on the same plate without thinking about how they might work together. Overdressed in pesto, vigorously stirred so that the avocado pieces fell apart and the ribbons of carpaccio become clumps and liberally sprinkled with far too many overtoasted almond flakes, it was a mess. Our mains arrived! The ricotta and spinach ravioli were OK if you weren’t hoping for too much and your gold standard is a defrosted supermarket offering on a work night. The spaghetti and meatballs were frankly inedible. Overcooked flabby pasta that broke when lifted with a fork, pale tasteless pink sauce with grey, spongy balls of some indeterminate meaty substance. On the plus side, the waiters are friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is vibrant without being noisy and the music inaudible. Also the wine list is safe. Just don’t go there if you want good Italian food
