Paeffgen - Köln

We went there And the location is very nice and rustic. The waiters are considerably nice for cologne. - and the service was goodHowever the food was overpriced and not that super nice ! Some of it seamed to be just headed up by Microwave.

Beer in small 0,2 glasses at €1,70. If you are looking for classic German food thats a good place, they have mostly pork dished, classic bratwurst with sauerkraut is also on the menu. Nice rear garden, perfect to enjoy a cold drink in a shadow.

We came here as a group of eight to try some traditional german fayre. Shared cheeses and pickles (large gerkins) to start. Then traditional german main courses - snitchzel (sp) goulash etc. All enjoyed - and beers were kept well topped up. It was very hot on the day of our visit - and they opened the roof which did cool it down a bit. All in all a good meal.

We found out only after that the waiters at Paeffgen have a reputation for dry humor. It would have helped to have known in advance for, as non-German speakers, they came off as very irritable. We have been told that the waiters work on a sort of commission, renting their beer trays. So, be advised, the beer will keep flowing until you say so. And the beer, well it's a watery Cologne beer that will go down like water unless you are careful.We went for the sausages, which were certainly good. The potato salad was tasty as well. They have a lot of hearty German food on the menu, but we tried to keep it light for a small lunch. We chose the wrong place for that.Paeffgen should a good place to go with friends after drinking, to fill your stomach and ease up on alcohol. It's certainly a good place for groups and must get loud in the large open dinning room.It's a bit of Cologne history and for this it's something different and enjoyable. If you are searching for a beer and a snack-type meal to enjoy with friends, it's a good choice (although natives may disagree with me). If you are looking for something delicious, I think the city offers better.

Come over for a fresh draft beer. Together with friends to enjoy food. You can order a proper meal or snacks. Good quality and portions. While entering the pub, look at your left as there is the tap for beer.Go straight forward to enter the beergarten. A very nice atmosphere. Lots of people enjoying their drinks.
