It's pretty much a given that it's near impossible to find a great burger in the EU. Every burger that I have ever had on this side of the Atlantic has either been a from a frozen patty or had the consistency of rubber. Die fette Kuh has change all of that. I can truly say that here I dined on one of the best burgers I have ever had on any continent. This place goes the extra mile with top quality ingredients including local beef that's never frozen. The result is a burger that literally falls apart as you eat it. Aside from their regular selection, die fette Kuh also offers weekly gourmet burgers with unique topics. The atmosphere is friendly and casual although the interior very cramped. But, long tables and benches give it a nice communal dining feel. Simply put: if you love burgers, go here.
Finally made it here and it was nice because the line wasn't out the door this time! But my quest for the best burger place continues and it was time to try the Notorious Die fette Kuh. The interior of this place I didn't really care for at all. It's really small and you feel like you have no privacy. The chairs are so close together it's like eating on a flight how tight it is. Then you are probably sitting next or a crossed from a stranger which was also not so good. The real reason why I came here was to try their famous burgers. I ordered the triple cheese burger and my friend ordered the Teriyaki burger and we split them and had an order of large fries with curry mayo and tomato herb sauce. The triple cheese burger to be honest was a let down. Not a lot of flavor and overall kinda boring. I'd say 3 stars. The Teriyaki burger on the other hand was really good with a lot of flavor and it was something different which I really enjoyed 4.5 stars. The fries were cooked perfectly for me. Golden brown with a good crunch in them and the sauces were both great compliments to the fries. They have other burgers which I wish to try so going back here is going to happen. I enjoyed my experience but to be honest was a little disappointed but I am hopeful my next experience will be better.
I've been here twice now and the Burgers both times have been really good. The meat tastes like it should, juicy, cooked medium rare and well spiced. They have a range of burgers to choose from but I'm a fan of the classic cheeseburger. The one time I went during during the week and we were lucky enough to get a table pretty easily. The wait is not to long but you have to keep an ear out as they will just call out your name. The other time I was here it was packed and the wait was way too long. Overall the burgers are the bomb and I'd definitely go back, but definitely during the quieter times.
Another opportunity to give a half star, but luckily for this place, I had to round up to 3. I was excited to try this place with the Yelpies of Köln, as I hear this is one of the best burgers in Germany! That is a high standard, so I just had to come check it out! The decor is simple but clean, the menu didn 't overload the brain with too many choices (a pro and con at the same time), and the staff was friendly... all good signs so far! However, ultimately it comes down to the food. And in this case, the fat cow just didn 't deliver! -The meat: Although I could tell this was real beef, and no fillers, it was overcooked. Definitely disappointed in this category as I was even asked if medium was okay. However, I did look over at the grill and seems as if they were precooking a bunch of patties for their rush of customers. As a result, I got a dry beef patty. -The toppings: Lettuce, tomato, BBQ sauce, onions, cheese and bacon were my toppings on the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger. Again, I felt like it was lacking.. I needed some raw onions instead of cooked to give it texture, and the lettuce didn 't seem enough. The bacon was crispy and delicious though! BBQ helped the dry beef patty. -The pomme frites: Nothing special.. crispy, but no flavor.. even salting a bit while hot probably would have helped. Also, there was quite a few different pomme sauces listed on the menu, so I was excited to try these out! However, the chili mayo and their special fette kuh sauce both tasted the same.. like plain mayo! -The price: 12€ for a burger, fries, and a drink. Seemed overpriced for what was delivered. I probably won 't be back. But glad I tried the 'best burger in Germany ' Tschuss!
It's quite shocking for me to read such good reviews from americans about this place. I was here for the first time, and i was truly disappointed. I had a BBQ Bacon Burger, it was good, but nothing from other world. The paddy was big, 200 grs, cooked to the exact point, bacon crispy and tasted great, the BBQ was just regular bottle sauce from the Supermarket : the bun well, not the regular kind, but also nothing fancy, i found the patty a bit flavorless. The fries? Don't get me started! The waiting time was like quite a lot, but i'm not someone that complains about that, and i understand, because there is a lot going on here! But after the wait was over and my name was shouted, i got my burger, but no fries, but the guy behind the counter managed that pretty well, he apologized for it and told me i was going to get a big bowl, even though i ordered a small portion, and i also got 2 different sauces when i just ordered ketchup, KUDOS! The sauces overall were bad, flavorless. The Burger looked really great, i just don't know where the taste went, seriously! The service is... well... there? People are friendly, they are like really really under pressure, there are a lot of people coming and going. Like really a LOT of people. I've always heard pretty much only good things about this place and maybe i expected too much, but for me, it was truly just another burger joint with regular burgers. That's what really shocks me the most about the reviews from fellow american yelpers.
