During a heat wave in July, we stopped for lunch at Stanton. Just being able to sit in the shade would have been enough, but there were cold beer and terrific salads as well. The service was good, the food way better than expected, and those shady trees... View all feedback.
What Cécile Fournier doesn't like about Stanton:
Great place, lovely outside seating area tucked in by the church. We ordered breadrolls, mixed meat and cheese plate and coffee. Bread was nothing special, nor was the meat or cheese offered. At €7 for 1 person we though it overpriced. The coffee however was really very good. We ordered second cups. I'd go back for the ambience and coffee but eat elsewhere another time. View all feedback.
We had lunch on a busy shopping saturday. The food was very nice and creatively prepared. Service was a bit slow - waiters were working very hard but the place was packed, and it is definitely not a cheap cafe. If you got time, definitely recommended.
We stumbled on this cafe yesterday evening while actually looking for another we had been directed to but could nt see in the rain and dark . They had some lovely veggie options on the menu but we chose a veggie option of the tapas platter for two to share . It was deliocius , full of complimentary flavours , fresh and just right for our appetite . The rosemary bread was really tasty and with good qualty olive oil . Very reasonable at €21 . More than enough to eat . I chose a tempranillo wine to Comliment it . Lovely . The staff were very helpful and friendly . The cafe full of atmosphere . Interesting decor with spectaculr chandaliers made from recycled material . To see them alone is worth a visit . Our custom was grealtly apprecited and we departed feeling fully satisfied. would highly recommend .
We stopped at the street cafe on the Schildergasse yesterday and were served by probably one of the most miserable waitresses I've been served by in a long time. I ordered the hot apple drink advertised on their special board (in German as I am German so there wasn't a communication problem) and she told me they didn't do such a drink. When I told her I saw it on the special board she said no they didn't they only do an orange one not apple. So I said to her 'well I'm pretty sure I saw apple under the orange one but maybe I misread it. Please can you tell me what it says in second place on the special board?' (Because I fancied something hot but didn't like the sound of the orange drink) and then she finally had a proper look at the board and said a very underwhelmed 'oh yeah', no apology nothing. Surely a waitress should be aware of their daily specials (there was only 3 or 4 special drinks) and especially if a customer points out that it's on the board not doubt it without checking properly. I then continued to ask for a glass of tap water to which she said 'no we don't do that as we sell our own water'. I pointed out that I just needed a sip of something cold to take some medicine which resulted in the most miserable response of 'OK but only as an exception''. It's not like we just sat there and wanted a free drink we both had a rather expensive drink each that came to over €10. At this point I felt so unwelcome I wanted to leave. But we decided to stay as our feet needed a rest from walking. She continued to fetch our drinks and I continued being nothing but polite (being very English-fied having lived in England a long time) saying please and thank you every time as is common curtesy but there was not one thank you, you're welcome, please or even a smile from her she just dumped the drinks on our table and walked off. She just looked and acted like she didn't want to be there. A standard 'have a nice day' was the only positive thing she managed to say when we left. I have seldom received such miserable service and will never be back. The drinks were ok but nothing special. Please sort out your attitude towards paying customers!
Nice café in the middle of one of the main shopping streets in Cologne, next to a Renzo Piano building. It actually belongs to a church, and it´s spacious but also quiet and chilled. A good place to have a break and drink a good latte macchiato. The food is also ok.
After a morning going around the Christmas markets we were tired and hungry. We didn't know what to expect but this restaurant certainly delivered. The other diners were mostly German but the waitress spoke good English and the menu was translated. We both had a burger with rosemary flavoured sauté potatoes. Delicious! We also had a very good glass of Merlot. We really enjoyed our lunch and would recommend this restaurant. We both thought it was reasonably priced.
