Reviews - Java Flats
Reviews summary
Tucked into Kodiak, this owner-run café is a neighborhood gem known for expertly brewed coffee, abundant tea choices, famous cookies (including gluten-free), and hearty sandwiches and soups. Friendly staff create a warm, community vibe around sunny outdoor-only seating; plant-based milks and online ordering add convenience. Expect limited seating and occasional flies outdoors, but locals and visitors rave about the flavors and service—an irresistible stop on the island.

Can?t say enough about their customer service and quality of coffee and food. They are always friendly and happy to be keeping the population of Kodiak well caffeinated :D Plus, the cookies are out of this world. The photo shows a couple gingerbreadcookies I picked up this morning. I?ve also had several of their vegetarian sandwich and chili options and they?re equally asdelicious. So glad to have this option a mere 6 minutes from me!
Love how you can order ahead and customize your order! Also a great spot for seeing bears while sipping your coffee!
I live 3,500 miles away and my coworkers never stopped raving about this place. I can say it was worth it! I got the pesto chicken sandwich on a sesame bagel and a side of corn and pepper chowder. Both tasted great, but the chowder was admittedly alittle greasy. Washed it down with a seasonal peppermint white chocolate mocha and the famous cookies. Make sure you don't leavewithout the cookie. The staff were very friendly and make an effort to get to know the customers. Definitely coming back beforeI leave!
Java Flats was hands down my favorite restaurant while living on island! Not much of a coffee drinker, it was a treat having a variety of hot tea options to choose from. Whether popping in for a huge delicious cookie or one of the amazing croissantsandwiches, a trip to Java Flats was always a treat. It?s been more than two years since moving off island, and I still thinkabout the amazing space Alicia created with so many wonderful memories. 10/10 would recommend!
I live 3,500 miles away, and my team couldn't stop raving about this place. I can honestly say it was worth the trip! I tried the pesto chicken sandwich on a sesame bagel, accompanied by a side of corn and pepper chowder. Both were delicious, although the chowder was a bit greasy. I washed it down with a seasonal peppermint white chocolate mocha and had to try the famous cookies—don't skip on those! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive to the customers. I will definitely return before I head home!

Fresh, fresh, fresh! Who would think on an Island of Alaska in the middle of the ocean you would get such yummy fresh sammies! Thank you Alicia!
This restaurant is fantastic, and the staff is incredibly friendly. If you care about other customers, please order online to help everyone avoid having to wait in line for 20 minutes.
Like the Rendezvous it's a must when in Kodiak. Easy to order online and outstanding food and service.
I visited here for the first time with a stranger I saw walking on the road and invited along to have lunch with me after church. Ha ha, impromptu picnic. The owner greeted us with smiles and we broke into laughter for a moment while I stumbled my way through my order. We chatted and ate in the sun while sitting at the tables out front. The food and service at Java Flats were all quite wonderful. I'm not certain why people mention the price, when one can go to Mcdonalds and get bad service, cold food, and the wrong order every single time for the same amount of money.

The food is fantastic! This restaurant offers drive-thru service only, with outdoor seating available on the front covered deck. It’s not the best choice if you’re in a hurry, but it’s definitely worth the wait if you have a little time to spare. The online pre-ordering process is straightforward, and our orders have always been accurate. There’s a great selection to choose from, too!

I’m incredibly impressed with the outstanding customer service and the high quality of both the coffee and food at Java Flats. The staff is consistently friendly and upbeat, making sure everyone in Kodiak stays happily caffeinated! :D The cookies are absolutely delicious—featured here are some gingerbread cookies I picked up this morning. I’ve also enjoyed several vegetarian sandwiches and chili options, all of which are fantastic. I’m so excited to have this wonderful spot just a quick 6-minute drive from me!
Java Flats quickly became my top choice while I was on the island! Although I'm not a big coffee fan, I loved the wide variety of hot teas they offered. Whether I was grabbing one of their tasty cookies or a fantastic croissant sandwich, each visit to Java Flats was a treat. Even though I've been away for over two years, I still cherish the warm atmosphere Alicia cultivated and the many great memories I made there. I highly recommend it—absolutely 10 out of 10!
