Magie! after a day of starving in the cold we have found ourselves after koblenz and this jewel. atmosphere perfect, cake sublime. hot chocolate was great. sooo much chocolate we couldn't buy everything, but wanted.
Café Baumann is an icon in Koblenz. Their bakery products are amazing and my Mum, who still lives in Koblenz, goes there all the time since 30+ years. Yesterday, old friends took us for breakfast and I hate to say it, but it was less than average, and the service was not only inattentive, but the execution was awful and any product that did not come from the bakery was less than average. The salami and turkey was ... cheap. The four of us hated it. Then, it took three attempts to get a soft boiled egg and it arrived 30 mins after breakfast. Once the service had cleaned our plates, it just disappeared. We sat there for another hour as you do in Germany and they did not even ask if we cared for anything else. I would understand if the place was packed but at this particular time, two thirds of the tables were vacant. They did not even bother to bring the check we had to find someone to pay. Sorry, as much as I love your place, if I had to pick a place where to go today, I'd rather risk checking out any new place than going again. And again, this comes from a customer who has been at least 100 times in the last 30 years.
