Blackwaters River Lodge Mashie Golf Course

I am just reviewing the mashie golf as my wife and I did not stay at the lodge. The golf was great. It is very scenic, well marked, and the course was long enough that I felt it was good value for money. My only complaint was that the grass was a bit long for a mashie golf course. I do not know if they has been busy and had not cut the grass in a while, but there were patches where the grass was too long and thick to play properly. Reception was friendly and courteous. Booking was hassle free. Beds were clean and comfortable. We asked for a double or queen bed room but was given two single bed room. The room cleanliness below par for a 5-star establishment. The bathroom basin, bathtub and shower fittings was riddled with rust, again not one would expect from a 5-star hotel. Disappointing, expected better. 2/5

After enjoying a great lunch, we took our child for a quick swim in the pool before heading out for golf. However, a staff member abruptly told us that the pool was only for guests. I explained that I had called earlier for confirmation, and that we had just eaten lunch and were about to play golf. The staff member dismissed my concerns and walked away. Faced with this complete lack of hospitality, especially given that the place was nearly empty and there was no one else in the pool, we decided to leave and skip the golf. In doing so, they lost out on at least 1,000 Rand from our potential spending on golf and food and drinks. We were even considering returning later in the week with more family. I could understand if it were peak season and crowded, but that was far from the case. Unfortunately, we won't be returning, and I cannot recommend this place to anyone else. The owner's response didn't address the fact that I inquired about pool access earlier that day. As an alternative, we ended up spending the day at Pezula Resort Hotel Spa as day guests, where we received outstanding service and were allowed to use the facilities without needing to stay overnight. We felt genuinely welcomed there.

I had a delightful day out filled with pleasant surprises at Blackwaters River Lodge. Although the restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, they now offer a charming coffee shop experience called "On the RiverBanks." The menu is small but delightful, and you can sit by the swimming pool, taking in the beautiful views and the sounds of birds around you. We thoroughly enjoyed our quiche and scones, and the option to have a glass of wine was a nice touch. We will definitely return to enjoy this lovely place again.

Nestled in the heart of the Garden Route, this establishment is conveniently located just off the N2 between Sedgefield and Knysna. The gardens line the bank of the Goukamma River, offering stunning mountain views, an abundance of birdlife, and an on-site restaurant. It's just a short drive to Buffalo Bay beach, where you'll find a charming little restaurant right on the beach. The atmosphere here is beautiful and tranquil! Overall, I rate the rooms 5, the service 5, and the location 5.
