The seven-bedroom B&B is a historic landmark in Killyleagh, previously serving as an Ulster Bank, and retains many of its beautiful original features. We arrived around 3:30 PM and were warmly welcomed by the owner, Leontine, who gave us a brief tour of the establishment. This included the cozy living room with a crackling fire and the cheerful breakfast area, before showing us to our room. And what a room it was! Leontine informed us that it is the most popular one due to its spaciousness, featuring a large four-poster bed and a bathroom complete with a whirlpool bath. The rich red and cream color scheme beautifully complemented the building's original features, such as the window shutters. Our room also came equipped with a selection of toiletries, tea and coffee-making facilities, as well as cozy slippers and a dressing gown—pure bliss! The following morning, we made our way to the breakfast area, where we enjoyed a cold selection that included cereal, freshly baked bread and wheaten, fruit salad, and yogurt. We were instructed to ring a bell for hot food, and soon after, a lovely lady arrived to take our order. Barry opted for the full fry, while I chose sausage and egg, accompanied by delicious stacked soda bread and potato bread—a delightful touch! Before checking out, I was eager to see the connecting Dufferin Hall, which had undergone the recent £10K renovation. I was especially curious because I had just gotten married myself, and the Hall is known for its romantic wedding setting. It did not disappoint; the hall was stunning, with its stone steps, walls, and stained glass door panels. If you're looking for a unique wedding venue, I highly recommend checking it out! As we prepared to leave, I was glad to have the opportunity to say goodbye to Leontine. We had a lovely night away and felt right at home. The B&B, situated in the shadow of the magnificent Killyleagh Castle, manages to retain a modern charm without feeling dated. Plus, it's only a 30-minute drive from Belfast, making it a fantastic choice for a short getaway!
