La Garita - Killeen

I often find myself longing for the flavors of the island. While I can whip up some dishes, they never quite measure up to my mom's cooking. Whenever I seek out a Puerto Rican restaurant, I hope to recreate those cherished food memories—and this place truly delivered. The fried red snapper was outstanding; it’s rare to find it served whole like this! The mofongo was delicious, especially when paired with the mayo ketchup. Though my mom’s arroz con gandules is still unmatched, their version was quite tasty. The alcapurria was fantastic, and my husband was pleasantly surprised by the sauce on his burrito, which I had anticipated. They use a criollo-style sauce that took him by surprise, but for me, it brought me right back home.

The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding. The seafood salad was particularly delicious.

Additionally, adding more decorations that represent Puerto Rico could enhance the ambiance; I could see great potential for this place to really stand out. I highly recommend stopping by to give it a try!

My husband and I really enjoy the food here. Victor is consistently polite, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. When we dine in, we appreciate the great music and atmosphere. I would like to host a birthday dinner for my husband at this restaurant. It might be a bit challenging since it's not very large, but I think it's worth discussing with Victor.
