What FahdAMA dislikes about Heather:

I visited Heather while exploring the Gap of Dunloe and was disappointed by the poor customer service. Upon arrival, while waiting to be seated, it was clear the staff barely acknowledged us. Eventually, a woman led us to one of the many empty tables without greeting us or offering any hospitality—no smile or friendly gesture. She placed two breakfast menus on the table, despite it being lunchtime, and said she would... View all feedback.

Terrific experience. Took family of five(5) here for lunch on a Tuesday. I'm quite picky and particular but I found the food was excellent and the staff we're really great too. The kids loved their food and desserts were also a major hit (the sticky toffee pudding was amazing). The interior decor was tasteful and fitting with the surroundings of the Gap of Dunloe. The restrooms were very clean. I'd go back here in a heartbeat. Bought a nice sweatshirt at the adjoining store after lunch. Five stars.

Absolutely delightful with the super fresh flavors and ingredients! Their greenhouses are just down the hill so it’s practically farm to table!

4 stars because there aren't any vegan options. If you take the potato cakes and eggs off the veggie irish plate, I think it would be vegan ? , but i can't confirm. The coffee is fantastic, and the rest of the food looks great. Good prices, convenient location, decent parking if you get there early. It's also attached to a small gift shop, and the bathrooms are clean.

I visited Heather for lunch with my mom and had an excellent experience. The food was outstanding from beginning to end, and the staff were very welcoming and attentive. The menu offered a great variety of delicious options to choose from. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. It was truly impressive. We’ll definitely be returning!

Had breakfast at Heather this morning with my friend Max. We frequently try various breakfast spots around Killarney, but this one stands out as the absolute best by far. We were so impressed that we asked to meet the chef, Paul, to personally praise his outstanding work. The entire staff is exceptional.

I had lunch here after a beautiful walk up the Gap. They offer a wonderful lunch-only menu. The food was fresh and beautifully presented. It’s much quieter than the other café and has a more relaxed vibe. My brother brought his three dogs, which the owner welcomed without any issue, and we were fortunate to sit outside in the lovely garden. All four adults, two children, and three dogs enjoyed their meals, and the service was very prompt. I’ll definitely be returning.

We booked a table at Heather for a Sunday lunch with my partner and toddler. Upon arrival, it took five long minutes before anyone acknowledged us. An uninterested waitress finally seated us, pointing out that there was no need to book instead of simply greeting us. From there, the experience only went downhill. The service was shocking—plenty of eye rolls and nods as if the staff had lost their voices. It was clear they didn’t want to be there, but we were still expected to pay full price; a smile would have been nice! One waiter even gave us a bad look when we politely asked for cutlery after our food arrived. The waitress forgot to include our chips, even though we ordered four items. They only arrived after we finished eating, and when we sent them back, they were still added to the bill (although they were removed upon our request). Had the food been better, I might have rated it higher, but it was also a big disappointment. The chicken sandwich my partner ordered was the saddest thing I’ve seen—two dry pieces of chicken with just two salad leaves. You can find better and cheaper options at a Spar or any gas station. My daughter’s sausage bap was even worse: one dry sausage cut into four pieces inside a buttered brioche bun with nothing else. Needless to say, she left it uneaten. I had the fish cakes, which were decent, probably because they’re not made in-house. The prices at Heather were steep, and the only homegrown touch was the few salad leaves garnishing the plates. It’s also worth mentioning that chips do not come included with meals; we had to ask for them as a side, but they arrived too late. Not once did anyone ask how our meal was or offer a smile. We left upset and still very hungry. This, to me, is what a tourist trap looks like at its worst. The Heather menu did not live up to expectations at all.
