The food and service were incredible. This restaurant is a must-visit. The drinks and food were exceptional. It was definitely worth every penny. I will definitely be returning! The cheese platter is a must-have, and the steaks were so tender that you didn't even need a knife. View all feedback.
What Fannie Heidenreich doesn't like about Grandstaff & Stein Book Sellers:
we had 8:30 reservations. 8 o'clock. the restaurant was closed. No one here. maybe cars of workers were in the back. a previous review had this problem too. do not use this restaurant View all feedback.
Overall, this restaurant was okay. We like trying new places and wanted to give this themed restaurant a shot. We walked in to the bookstore and knew to wait for the hostess. She stayed in theme and was very friendly and fun and loved that we had and used the password and said we were the first people to use it in days. Speakeasy... password... DUH. We came early to sit at the bar, which the restaurant obliged, and had a few cocktails. The cocktails were excellent, the bruschetta was mediocre and not worth $8-9. The weirdest part at the bar was that we sensed tension between the bartenders and servers. I’m not sure what that was about but my husband and I looked at each other and noticed immediately. After our cocktails, we sat at our table. Our server was not warm, nor overly friendly. Granted, we had sat at the bar for a little while but as soon as we sat at our dinner table, she asked us what we wanted to order. We did not partake in salads or more appetizers and immediately ordered entrees, both of which were pretty good, although the pricing seemed off on the one my husband had due to portion size. The ambiance is fine, but if they’re going to call themselves a Speakeasy, it needs to be bigger and just... more. More decor, more theme, something. I don’t really regret trying G&S, but I probably won’t go back to the OBX location. Stick to the classic seafood spots you know and love when in Nags Head, KDH, and Kitty Hawk!

This restaurant opened about a year and a half ago and if you haven’t tried it you need to. The speakeasy themed restaurant is nicely appointed with comfortable seating and appropriate lighting. To begin with, their bar menu is extensive and they feature many signature cocktails. The focus is more in whiskies than in wines but you do not find some of their offerings just anywhere. The hot crab dip was amazing ,served with buttery pita wedges. The menu of entrees was not long but offered good choices. My companion had chicken piccata which was expertly prepared with fresh asparagus. I chose shrimp andouille which was served with a tomato cream sauce and penne. Mine was also delicious. For dessert we chose a key line pie which was absolutely the best I have ever had...anywhere. From the time we were greeted by s very lovely hostess to the time we left, we found enjoyment. Our server was so very pleasant and attentive. We highly recommend this newer entry on the OBX dining scene.
This is our 2nd visit, which we have dined here for our high-time anniversary in the last 2 years. this is a great restaurant for a special occasion! we were impressed by everything the service that eats, the ambiente and the total experience. we highly recommend and find it surprising that this restaurant is not fully booked with reservations.
