The abundance of signs and decorations feels more like a gimmick than an authentic Southern experience. While the fried chicken, hush puppies, and Brunswick stew are usually reliable choices, finding a decent meal can feel like a stroke of luck. The vegetable sides are overcooked and taste like they come from a can. The fried fish is frequently stale, greasy, and overcooked, leading to an unappealing texture. There’s inconsistency in service, food quality, and temperature, with some instances of stale tea that tastes unpleasant, which is simply unacceptable. The lack of effort in serving fresh tea and consistently well-made Brunswick stew suggests they are settling for mediocrity, relying on roadside decor and a façade of Southern hospitality to compensate.
