One of the best Mexican meals in Kelowna can be had...in a hardware store (RONA). Nothing fancy, but an honest and authentic bite...feels like a food truck experience. Why? Because you order, pay and bam! In few minutes you eat something tasty, zesty and filling. It might not be for those who were nursed on burgers and fries and other fast food atrocities so prevalent in North America. It does not pretend to be a fan... View all feedback.
What Vincent O'Reilly doesn't like about Los Jarros Cafe:
Went to the Los Jarros location in Rona today for lunch after a friend recommended it. What a disappointment! I ordered a $10 beef burrito and was served a wrap filled with lettuce and the tiniest little bit of beef in it.Authentic Mexican feel maybe but the food served to my friend and I was very disappointing. Tucked inside Rona on Springfield Road in Kelowna, you will find what might be the best Mexican food in Kelowna. Owned and run by Mexican nationals, this little cafe style restaurant offers about a half dozen authentic Mexican dishes, and is phenomenal! My go to dish is the pork or chicken tacos. Served with beans, rice, guacamole, and some hot sauce, it is loaded with flavour and authentic Mexican style. You can also get either Jamaica, or (I think) Horchata to drink - which are traditional Mexican beverages. Summary: One of the best, if not the best, Mexican restaurants in Kelowna. Given that it's located in Rona, you may prefer to go to their West Kelowna location for a better experience, but for a quick, inexpensive lunch. there is almost no match!
It's crazy that there's an amazing Mexican restaurant in a hardware store but it's true, tucked into Roma is the best little place. I grew up in California where the Mexican food is plenty and I find Canadian versions to be boring and not as authentic. Los Jarros tastes like the real thing. There are a few options and they seem to switch them up. I've been probably 5 times and always enjoyed my meal. Great sized portions for a fantastic price. You must give this place a chance! I've heard they opened a second location on the West side, not sure if that has changed anything.
I used to work at the Rona where this cafe is located for several years and it is pretty damn good. It may not look like much, but it has it where it counts. The owners, Mario and Martha are super friendly. The food is very tasty and authentic. It can be a bit pricey, as I've seen the prices slowly climb and climb.I haven't been back in several months but I still dream of the burrito.
Standing in line in a corner of a big Rona store I was really getting second thoughts about dining here. The food sure looked good and smelled great, so I decided to stay while the couple behind the counter put on what can only be called a Keystone Kops performance. The lady was very friendly and polite but it seemed like she had never seen a cash register before, let alone operated one and was making mistake after mistake. The cook seemed completely out of his element and just three tickets flustered him completely. Many moons ago in Southern California I owned two restaurants where we would get hit with over 30 tickets at once and we never once went down. This couple really seemed totally out of their element and might have been better off running a wheatgrass juice bar somewhere so I winced when I got the food. Surprisingly it was fairly good. Sure there were a lot of nits to pick, like the ground beef on the tacos was meagre, the frijoles were soupy and tasteless, and the arroz was stodgy and equally bland. However, the guacamole was very good, the salad very fresh, and fortunately ample amounts of El Yucateco green habanero sauce (about 1/4 of the whole bottle was what was needed) provided acceptable zing. The price of $13 CDN for the plate including a surprisingly good tamarind juice is about a buck fifty in real US greenbacks, so I can't complain about that! ;)So, sure, it's in a Rona, and the couple serving you are the antithesis of Mexican food experts, but you could get a lot worse.

The choices are limited...but imagine you are in a food truck! It is, after all in the middle of RONA. However, it i s a great alternative to Tim Horton's, Subway and MacSomething seen in other stores. I say - great! For $ 10 bucks a meal, you will be satisfied. Closed on Sundays.
