What SelmaAldemir doesn't like about Tanaka:
we went with friends for sushi during the week.. the location is easily accessible but far from the center. food is good but not special. value for money is not the best. service is slow. overall we were satisfied but it is not a place i would recommend, nothing special. View all feedback.
Amazin chef and great food. Best Sushi you will find in and around Bern! You can even take Sushi classes there.
An exceptional Japanese specialty restaurant located slightly outside of Bern. An inspiring and minimalistic design, which manages to convey warmth; an absolutely irreproachable menu and service this is a rare find, and a dignified successor to the regretted Kabuki at Markthalle. The sake selection to accompany the menu is particularly good. Prices, while high, are not astronomical, and well worth the experience.
For having tried several japanese restaurants in Bern and its surroundings, I can say that Tanaka Restaurant is from far my favourite. The quality of the food is excellent, and the choice is from my point of view large enough to satisfy anyone fond of japan food. As specified in the name, this restaurant offers a new style approach that I have appreciated. The service is overall good. Two details: The food is expensive, but it really worth it Not for people who want massively to eat sushi/maki+soya sauce until explosion of the belly... It is clearly not this kind of restaurant
Atmosphere is ok, friendly staff, sufficient place to sit. But ... prices have skyrocketed for what is basically raw fish on rice. Preperation according to what can be expected from a japanese cook, variation was nothing exciting, no special sushi's, no exceptional styles or tastes, just basic stuff. Good, but definetly not worth the exaggerated budget they demand. Theoretically there might be a cheapest item on the menu, but I didn't find it.
I come here every winter when I visit Bern and I'm always impressed. The sushi is done very well and looks beautiful when served. If you're not a fan of wasabi I would advise against getting the nigiri because there is wasabi underneath the fish (or you can ask for it without). The salad is also really amazing (one of the best dressings I've had). I love their interior design. It's very simple but elegant. I also love that they have mint ice cream for dessert, as mint is my favorite flavor and it's hard to find anywhere else in Switzerland. They also have a selection of well-crafted knives that you can buy. We have one in our home and it's amazing.
