We came on a hot Saturday night. We were newbies, everyone else in the lineup was getting food to go. You choose from ribs, pulled pork, brisket, sausage, side salads etc. No chicken. Everything is priced by weight. All prices are posted and the cash register shows you how much per container. The staff were super friendly and suggested as first timers we order the sampler meal 2 ribs, 1 sausage, pulled pork and brisk... View all feedback.
What Ross M doesn't like about Muddy's Pit BBQ:
Not worth the money at all. Very dry meat. 50 dollars for very little meat. The owner is extremely sensitive. Any bad review is removed by the owner. The owner has zero ability to hear anything bad about the lack of quality if his meat. View all feedback.
Muddy's Pit BBQ is a seasonal roadside barbeque restaurant located in Keene, Ontario which is situated right outside Peterborough, Ontario. It's approximately a 1 hr 30 mins to 1 hr 45 mins drive from Toronto depending on traffic. Got there just before dinnertime on a Saturday and decided to go with the carnivore sampler $14.75/pound). I got a 1.5 pounds of the carnivore sampler which is enough food for the average guy along with a side of barbeque beans $7.00/pound) which weighed around .33 pounds. The carnivore sampler consisted of pulled pork, beef brisket, hot link sausages and pork back ribs. It's a good choice if you are looking to try out all the meats. Everything on the menu is done by the pound but keep in mind you have the option of ordering in between i.e 1.33 or 1.75 pounds). The hot link sausage was outstanding, nicely seasoned with a great kick and smokey flavour. The beef brisket was pretty good, tender fall apart meat. Pulled pork was pretty good, fall apart meat and not dry. The pork back ribs were also pretty good, fall off the bone meat. Could have used a little bit more of a smokey flavour but overall pretty good. Really enjoyed the beans, which were creamy, tender and had a rich barbeque flavour. Really good accompanying side. If you are ever in the Peterborough area, I definitely recommend Muddy's Pit BBQ for good barbeque. It's not amazing barbeque but pretty good barbeque overall. The prices are reasonable for barbeque, keep in mind meat isn't cheap these days. They also have ample seating inside the restaurant. Fyi: Muddy's Pit BBQ is only open seasonally from April to the end of December.
Brisket is on point and so are the baked beans! I also like how they serve it by the lbs...unlike overpriced places in the city
Hi all. I'm not one to leave negative reviews but feel the need this time. We've eaten here last year and it was great. We had the carnivore sampler and it was terrific and the two of us were stuffed after eating about a 2 lb portion. Told all of our friends about Muddys. We stopped in today for the same only as a take out to have at home. Unfortunately very disappointed. Two ribs that were all bone and cartridge with hardly an ounce of meat on them. One slice of dry brisket and a sausage equally as dry. The pulled pork was more shredded than it was pulled. Not all all what we had the last visit. I understand times have been challenging but for the money having to be charged when it's mostly bone and cartilage on the ribs, I think it's time to eat more at home. Covid has been tough on all businesses and I understand that. My expectations were higher and unfortunately I'm reluctant to go back. I'm sure it's just a Covid casualty situation. It's been tough on all hospitality sectors.
Love Muddy's! I always end up getting the carnivore sampler because I can't choose what I want. The macaroni and cheese salad and baked beans are also amazing. Now that I don't live in the area anymore whenever I come back to visit this is a must eat, would recommend to anyone who loves bbq. The staff are always friendly even when it's incredibly hot out and they are working their tails off during a rush. Can't say enough good things about them.
Full marks for real BBQ... excellent brisket, ribs and the soup was amazing maybe the best part... simply to die for! We asked for our sauce on the side but when we got home we found it was missing... highly recommend this place cant wait to go back...Crisco
