Taco Libre
4.8 / 5 (372 reviews)

Description

Taco Libre’s food truck serves authentic, boldly seasoned Mexican fare—standout tacos, burritos, bowls and quesadillas—accented by a praised homemade habanero salsa. Friendly staff, kid-friendly options and quirky lucha libre decor make it a lively, island favorite near Poipu, but be prepared for lines and occasional slow or inconsistent service; ordering ahead by text is recommended. Most visitors say the flavor and quality make the wait worthwhile, though a few items have disappointed on off days.

Be prepared for a wait! The process goes like this: you place your order, assist the cook with the current orders, take the next order... However, while I was in line, I discovered all 7 lucha libre action figures scattered around and earned a sticker! The burritos were fantastic, but the elote tasted like it came straight from a can, which my partner didn't enjoy at all. A tip: it's best to order ahead via text. Currently, the sign advises ordering by 10:45 AM for lunch and 4:45 PM for dinner.

Holy how this place impressed me. I’m Mexican American and grew up around good Mexican food my whole life. I lived in Mexico and in San Diego so I’m pretty snobby when it comes to good Mexican food. But wow it was all so good. The meat was perfectly seasoned and juicy. The rice and beans were flavorful. The fries were also seasoned and fried to perfection. They also had good salsas. We got the carne asada burrito and beef carene asada fries. Last meal before flying back home. Also the service was fantastic. The cashier was so sweet and super cute. I want to be best friends with her.

I frequently enjoy tacos in Los Angeles, and many taco joints tend to serve generic, pre-prepared meat. However, I was truly impressed with the tacos at Taco Libre. I tried the mahi fish taco and the pastor, both of which were fantastic. The homemade habanero salsa was also exquisite. It's amazing that after traveling all the way from California to Kauai, I discovered an authentic Mexican restaurant that follows traditional recipes passed down from their ancestors. Thank you for bringing me the taste of grandma's home cooking!

One of the best Mexican spots ever! The burritos were the best and all the staff are super sweet and accommodating! It’s a little wait but it’s worth it! It was our favorite spot to eat on the whole island! I seriously recommend!
