Atmosphere: it's a busy Restaurant; seats are limited but they do takeaway and there's a bench outside. We got lucky but I would've accepted the bench outside for this place. They have a traditional Asian style food bar set up as well as traditional seating; but if you're going Asian cuisine, go for the bar to complete that salary man feel that takes you to another place.Staff: they had one cook and one waiter on a Saturday lunch but these two are machines, yo! The chef is insanely quick and consistently good on quality I didn't see one piece of ugly food in there. The poor, outnumbered sweet Waitress gave us friendly, quick service and was quite knowledgeable about the menu. (Go easy on em with the numbers they have to cater for..)Food: the last time I had Karaage was in Bukoro in Tokyo. It was a specialty chicken Restaurant that was a hotspot. The local skateboarders turned me onto it & was so good but I haven't had it here, (AUS) since. The Karaage here is on the same level; it took me back to Tokyo in a heartbeat and I would catch a train from Newcastle to Katoomba to get this again. On top of that my GF is G-F and it's very rare we get to share a dish. Thanks to '8 things' I got to share something I love with her which is a rare experience. ( also plenty of other G-free options available..) '8 things' was the perfect finish to our weekend in the Blue Mountains; which featured many other fine restaurants. The Chef mentioned possibility of expanding in the future; which excited the hell out of us. If you see an '8 things', don't walk past it as the regret will eat you if you don't eat there!*Written by Alex with input frm Rebecca..
This little eatery is a huge boon for Katoomba diners. It focuses on only eight dishes at a time, each based around the street food of a particular locale: e.g., moules marinieres, Japanese fried chicken, nasi goreng and and honorary Katoomba healthy vegetarian special. Good local cider etc covers drinking needs. Only stools, so good for a quick meal where food quality is the priority. The tofu chips with mayo and sambal are addictive!
Shared 2 meals. Some great choices. Friendly staff. Quality and interesting food at reasonable prices. I'll be back to try something else next time m in the area.
This restaurant is not suitable for those with celiac disease. The staff were extremely impolite and indifferent.
