Their special of two generous... read more We have recently completed a three week rail trip around Switzerland, and this has to be the best value restaurant we came across. Their special of two generous pork schnitzels, chips and a medley of vegetables, all beautiful cooked, for CHF18 might sound quite a lot for those not used to Swiss prices but, believe me, most other places we found were charging CHF 30 and more for their main courses. The staff were very friendly and, needless to say, we ate there on each of the three nights we stayed in Kandersteg.

We sat outside in the cool evening air. Service was slow but we were relaxed, so a leisurely meal was totally game for us. The Goulash soup was amazing – one of the best we’ve ever had! I had a Rump steak with rosti croquettes and veggies which wasn’t bad and my husband had a French pancake stuffed with Chilli con carne which was unique though the chilli was not spicy. Our mains were not brilliant but the view of the mountains with the setting sun was sublime! And we were treated to local farmers moving their cows, walking along the main road with their huge bells clanging, and this was just a few feet from our table! All in all, a most memorable meal indeed!
