What Rachel Goldwater doesn't like about Hiho Cheeseburger Mid Wilshire:
I can't speak to the service since I've only ordered delivery but I've gotta say that the food is hit or miss. The first time I ordered from here, the burger was perfect, the fries were perfect, and the cheesecake was decent. My fiance didn't like the vanilla shake, but he's kind of picky about his milkshakes, so I won't hold that against them. But for this latest order, the burger was a soggy disgusting mess, and it w... It wasn’t all that my veggie burger was cooked nicely but just tasted some diner burger nothing special at all. The cheap shredded lettuce and the sauce added to the cheap diner burger effect. My girl eats meat and loves burger she didn’t care for it all and threw away half the burger. Beer was over $8 a pint and was warm and flat. Her soda was flat too. Never againVegetarian options: Veggie burger was decent but nothing to write home about.
This was a quick walk from the Academy Motion Picture Museum. Burgers were JUICY (if you don’t like a messy burger, this may not be your place I used a fork and knife). Fantastic fries, nice and thick, not shoestrings. Beer and wine available, I would have ordered a shake, but dairy is not my thing!
We thought we'd try a local place after LACMA and saw this was only a block away.Their double burger was juicy and flavorful if a little over salted. The pickles were surprisingly good. I kinda wish they toasted the buns or warmed them up a bit... Ours tasted like they just took them out of the refrigerator. We also wished they had a single patty option. The fries were good with just enough crisp and lightly salted. The extra fry sauce was a bit much. The burger was pretty salty, and the sauce has a strong flavor that overloads your palette. The sauce is good by itself, but it doesn't pair well with the burger. The Oreo shake was solid. Nothing crazy just solid. There's parking (free with validation), and the kids liked their food. It's not a bad place to go after LACMA, the Petersen, or the Tar Pits.
But for this latest order, the burger was a soggy disgusting mess, and it was missing a slice of cheese; and the fries were dry, overcooked, undersalted, and cold. Both times I've ordered, the soda has tasted like its diet (which I didn't order) and like it's running low on syrup. When the food is good, it's very good. But unfortunately, it seems like that's only the case sometimes for some orders. Disappointing.
This one sits in my top 5 burgers list. all the beef is 100% grass-fed Wagyu beef which is rare! given the price it is a total steal. i have seen places that charge double for a wagyu burger/slider. this one is juicy and has a crispy maillard crust. the taste of the meat is just perfect. we tried the milkshakes which were great and the key lime pie which was simply delicious with a lot of tang.
