Starting with fresh and homemade corn tortillas is a surefire path towards fantastic tacos. To then be able to deliver on carnitas the size of a pork shoulder from a BBQ joint, or expertly cooked cauliflower for the vegans, locks in Cocinas yCalaveras as an excellent choice for modern Mexican in LA. Cheladas and margaritas were all well loved by our group. A fewbeers from breweries down the Baja made for a differenti... View all feedback.
Came to mercado for dinner it's located right next to the grove. Cute space with a fun/bar vibe. We got seated and ordered drinks (mix of beer, mocktails, and soda). My mocktail was sweet and tart well presented. For appetizers, we got the dip duo (salsa, guac and queso). The queso was incredible it was a mushroom choyrizo queso that was spicy, rich and flavorful. Ended up eating heaps and heaps of this queso with tortillas that I ordered! For entrees, we were a little limited in vegetarian options. We got the cauliflower and mushroom tacos and the verduras enchiladas. The enchiladas were too sweet for me wish they had a spicier sauce. The tacos were decent. Would come back for the dips wish they have more vegetarian taco and/or enchilada options next time.
Not your typical Mexican restaurant. Mercado is an upscale restaurant that is Mexican with a twist. We were there on Halloween and were seated without reservations and without a wait. The waitstaff was attentive without being smothering. We had the guacamole and chips. The chips were hand made and had a great crunch. The salsa had a nice tangy and smoky burn. The guacamole was excellent. I loved the addition of pomegranate seeds. My husband and I split tacos and a Chile relleno. Delish. The only downside was the chaos were a little uncomfortable. Next time in town, I will definitely go back!
This meal was by far one of the BEST meals I've had in a while. Honestly might be my new favorite Mexican restaurant! The restaurant has a great vibe with giant floor to ceiling openings, dim lighting and a sexy bar. They offer happy hour until 7 pm too! Me and the girls went here and it out first time. They had a lot of specials whole deboned branzino, rib eye, spicy guava margarita, and a cucumber watermelon agua fresca. We started with some spicy cucumber margs. It was a really delicious margarita. We ordered the dip duo which came with a giant mound of guacamole was made to perfection with a chorizo queso sauce. This was really good. We also ordered the special branzino and the carne asada which came with tortillas, rice, beans, grilled veggies, mashed potatoes and MORE GUAC. This was A LOT of food for 3 girls but we managed to put a dent in it! Next time I would probably skip the appetizer and just stick to entrees here. Definitely try the specials! Both entrees were so so so good. I can't even pick which one I liked more if we're being honest.
I've been a fan of this spot for years.. since like idk.. 2017? Or was it 2016... Their food is always delicious and consistent. Drinks are great too! They always have special items available which I appreciate as well. Service is usually always great too! They don't operate like a normal restaurant where you have an assigned waiter and they're the only person who helps you during your meal.. each waiter helps out with all tables which makes for a much better experience and also just makes you feel like damn.. these people are a legit team! They have a front window area that opens almost like a garage which makes for an indoor/outdoor experience. 3rd st can be a little busy at times and when the restaurant is full it almost feels like you're in New York. High energy! I love the Al pastor tacos! Like LOVE them! They're so rich and juicy plus the tortilla comes with a light layer of cheese that just totally elevates the dish. The normal order comes with 2 but I always order 3. So here's my normal order..-Dip Duo-3 Al Pastor Tacos-748293874759 MargaritasTonight I actually ordered their guacamole chips salsa on Uber Eats to compliment my meal that I made at home and I am just wayyyyy too happy. Thanks Mercado for being such a gem!!!!
Read about this place on Google and decided to give it a try. Came in on a Thursday evening with a group of 5 and was seated immediately. Our waitress was very nice and definitely got us to buy more food than we intended! The guacamole was delicious--10/10 would recommend. The queso was okay, would eat it if someone else ordered but would order it myself. Not sure what kind of salsa we had, but nobody at the table enjoyed it. I got the shrimp tacos and cilantro lime rice. The tacos were good. A bit overpriced, but isn't everything in LA? The rice was decent, could've gone without it. Overall, our experience was pretty good. I would go back but I wouldn't have it on my list of favorites.
