What Angel Mason doesn't like about Cods Crayfish:
Warning tourists do not go here I didn’t get what I paid for. Charged extra for fresh fish it wasn’t fresh fish nor was it what I ordered, it was shark priced as fresh fish . ordered $80 worth of dinner for 3 people and Didn’t receive what I paid for either. the order was missing $30 worth of the food. The older lady was so rude to us I could have sworn she intentionally left out part of our order cause she knew we w... View all feedback.
The fish was good, the fry, just ok. The oil that they use to fry was either old or they overheated it. It permeated the crust and produced a semi foul flavor. Maybe they don't change the grease often enough...
Got the seafood basket. Was okay. Too much breading on the seafood. You have to pay extra for condiments, cups and cutlery.
Cods Crayfish is a small seafood shop in Kaikoura with a variety of local fresh seafood. My wife and I visited for lunch recently and had Green-Lipped Mussels and Crayfish. Both were freshly prepared upon ordering. The mussels were large, fresh, juicy and briny. The Crayfish was fresh, tender, and marinated in flavorful garlic butter. Overall, Cods Crayfish is a phenomenal spot for fresh flavorful seafood in Kaikoura.
Some of the best Fish and Chips we tried. We shared one of the Crayfish and shared the Blue Cod F&C and that was enough for a great lunch. Perfect location near the beach in Kaikoura. Outdoor seating nothing indoors.
We ate here for lunch one day after seeing the reviews on here and let me tell you, this lives up to the hype. It's a cute little orange building on the main road through town. When you walk in, there's a case with your choice of fish and a tank with live crayfish (What we Americans would call lobster). I ordered the fish, my wife had garlic butter shrimp and we split potato wedges. All were fantastic. They were so fresh! The fish and potato wedges came wrapped in paper and had dripping sauce. It was a perfect lunch and at a reasonable price. Although the crayfish is a specialty in this town we didn't try it (it starts at $75). All in all, I would definitely eat here again.
