What Frank Dohms doesn't like about Van De Vijsel:
Pros: Friendly staff and good location. Cons: The rooms are incredibly dark, it's like the inside of a cave! Plus, the noise insulation is really bad so you can hear phone conversations from neighbouring rooms. And I had a room next to the stairs, so constantly had to hear noisy footsteps as guests went up and down the stairs. Rooms: 2 Service: 4 Location: 5 View all feedback.
Stayed here 4 nights on 04/Jan to 08/Jan/2024. Base on the previous guests reviews, small room, lighting also dim, yes they are true. There is a hanging rack with 4 hangers to hang your clothes. A small cabinet right after you entered the room and a coffee maker with a electric kettle placed on top on it. Nice shower, comfortable sleep. Great location as eateries are nearby, also a short walk to Leidseplein which is convenient. Easy transport to and fro from airport and tourist attractions. Overall this hotel is a great value for tourists. The only downside was I'm dissatisfied with the check in process. We reached the hotel too much early and was asked to keep our luggages there and come back again at 3 pm. I understand and it was okay for me. We returned to the hotel 15 mins before 3pm, but the hotel front desk refused to check us in. Alright, we have no choice to sit at the waiting area beside the check in counter and wait for time goes by. But 5 minutes later which is 2.50pm, we noticed new guests coming in were allowed to check in to their room without waiting. I felt something like neglected. I stood up and walked to the lady who attended us earlier, but she put me standing there for around 10 mins busy with the check in process for another new guests. She owed me an explanation. I am not happy with this. We finally got our room key attended by her colleague.Due to the above uneasy experience, I give only 2 stars. I don't mind waiting but please do not neglect me. Front line staff always represent the professional image of an organization. It can be either you ruin it or you keep it. Other than that, considering the location of the hotel, it is still a good value. Walkability: Transportation nearby, trams and bus stops. Walking distance to tourist attractions such as Leidseplein, Anne Frank and others. The famous Pancake Club is just a block away. Surrounding by lots of eateries.
Location and interior was the only nice things about the hotel. The staff was super unfriendly and I got double charged for city taxes and they had no intensions to try and assist me to get my money back. They gave me such attitude and especially the manager. When we finally gave in and paid the fee we had already paid before arrival we are put into rooms that were so dark and dingy. Neither did the WIFI work in two of them the ones that were on ground and first floor, but we also didnt have cell reception. That is a big security issue which I later saw that has been an issue for a while but they obviously dont care to fix. When we went to the desk to complain about the WIFI the staff was obviously so used to this complaint that she almost shushed us and just connected us to an office network which, shocker, didnt work in the rooms properly either. The hotel staff did not try and make nice with us after this horrible service and experience with so much as a free drink voucher (which we saw them hand over to guests that had booked through their personal website so we knew they had plenty on hand) or even so much as a smile. Big thumbs down for Hotel Van De Vijsel, please dont stay there. Rooms: very small very dark Safety: no cell reception or wifi in most rooms Food drinks: weird bar concept where you are supposed to help yourself but it looks so uninviting and no information from staff Noteworthy details: unfriendly staff
I cannot emphasize enough how poorly this establishment is managed. I had a confirmed booking and even had my colleague check-in on my behalf as I was stuck in meetings. Despite this, they decided to cancel my room at 10am, a full 2 hours before the 'no-show ' policy kicks in, claiming that they had an urgent booking request. Not a single attempt was made to contact me. Unbelievable lack of professionalism and a total waste of time. Rooms: 1
Lage top, aber sehr kleine dunkle Zimmer (comfort room gebucht! kein Schrank, kein Haken, super hellhörig, die Marshall bluetooth box über uns dröhnt ununterbrochen. Frühstücksraum auch sehr eng und unfreundlicher service. Der Style insgesamt ist schon nice, aber Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt nicht Und als Raucher muss man auf die Straße im stehen eine durchziehen kein Aussenbereich im Hotel, kein Balkon ich würde nicht mehr kommen
