This restaurant is located on the edge of the inner city, opposite a renovation site and close to ETSU. The food is delicious, especially the lentil soup and pita bread. As a vegan, I enjoyed the veggie platter, and the baklava and Turkish coffee are of good quality. The owner and waiting staff are friendly and attentive. It has a cozy atmosphere and I highly recommend it to vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters alike... View all feedback.
What Chris Hedges doesn't like about Red Meze:
I’m not here to tell people whether they should go to this restaurant or not, I think everyone should try a restaurant and form their own opinion. However, be forewarned that these people are charging one dollar for any extra sauces, i.e. mayonnaise special sauce, etc. in a thimble size plastic container and the wait staff fails to let you know that until you get your bill and when I asked my waitress what the charge... I was visiting the area for a week and sought out restaurants that were vegan friendly. I was delighted to find this small stylish Turkish cafe with a nice outdoor patio. I tried the maze platter so I could taste a variety of appetizers. It was beautiful! It included two things I had never had before. The ezme consisted of lovely chopped tomatoes with fresh herbs. The smoked eggplant was the star, so rich and flavorful! The platter plus some lentil soup made a fine meal. Loved it so much I went back the next night for more smoked eggplant, plus a falafel wrap with green pepper added, kalamata olives on the side, and excellent tabouleh. Finished off with strong Turkish coffee. Highly recommended!!
It was the best Turkish restaurant we've ever seen in Tennessee. Thanks for the great hospitality and delicious food
If you like to try new and interesting things you have to give this place a try. This Turkish sit down is the kinda splash of culture I love to see in JC. I’ve been here 3 times and I’ve yet to be disappointed by anything. The food is always so flavorful and colorful, plated perfectly. I definitely recommend the Iskender Kebab or Chicken Adana Kebab, both are fantastic. The atmosphere here is great too with tidbits of Turkish culture all over the place and both the waiters and owners are super nice. PS: They do serve both domestic, local, and Turkish beers here too…….Just incase you needed a drink
From start to finish this food is delicious and fresh. Hummus is THE BEST I’ve ever had from a restaurant. The staff was attentive, kind, grateful, patient and ready to make suggestions. I took the owner’s advice on what foods he recommended and was not disappointed. This will be one I will be frequently visiting. I highly recommend you try the walnut baklava.
Nice little Mediterranean and Turkish place. Fabulous food they've got a good mix of everything to offer for Mediterranean and Turkish food gyro, falafel, egg plant, flavorful hummus, range of appetizers, entree, sides and drinks. Ezme with pita, falafel burger, falafel platter, and Turkish coffee were all well made. Lentil soup with pita is flavored with oregano and mint, which is on the milder side. Service would need a little push. Our appetizers and soup came at the end after the entree. The food is appealing and well made. If you are in a mood for Greek and Turkish food, you would enjoy this place.
