Despite this, the beautiful location and friendly service create a welcoming atmosphere. While recent changes and turnover have impacted the restaurant, improvements in the menu and taste have been noted. Although food quality has declined with a new chef, the limited menu still impresses. Overall, Canary Square remains a favorite spot for many, offering top-quality dishes prepared by skilled kitchen staff. The warm service, delicious food, and cozy ambiance make it a must-visit local tavern, perfect for any occasion.
In a word, exalted. My wife and I lived in JP for several years and without a doubt went to the Canary Square more than any other restaurant throughout the city. While some may think that it is limited, I would with you know you know. We just lived on the street so it was naturally convenient, but in reality it was so much more: the design of the list alone would be worth 5 stars. The food was always incredible, but small could think the menu was. (It was also one of the few places that thankfully consistently served a black bean burger. I personally didn't think it was different than most smaller restaurants in the neighborhood or even the whole city. The staff was always pleasant in my opinion, and we always *always* were quickly sat on busy Friday/Saturday nights, simply because they finally came to recognize us. Now we live in Pennsylvania, but when we visit Boston, we plan to go early enough to get to CS before they close and have dinner. Don't miss!
Great local tavern for food and drink. We'll get our daughter out early. Very recommended if you are looking for cocktails, date night or a family dinner with the little ones.
It wasn't in time. Pizza and beer selection (although many empty taps) were really good. The man who leads the food to tables grilled me and other tables when he came and fell off the food. Not sure it was a bad day? I'm probably going to look over again
Good food with limited choices. Had a goat cheese salad with fig balsamic vinegar. Very good. Food came out quickly.
I’ve been going to Canary since it opened, over ten years ago. There’s been a decent amount of change and turnover through the years, not always for the better. The place has improved markedly over the last couple of years, though, which is great to see because the staff is always nice and the space is perfect for a restaurant and bar. Current menu is quite tasty! It’s still a bit expensive for what you get, and you’ll wait a while if they’re busy, but you always see the staff busting their butts to keep up. I know the current staffing shortage is hitting most restaurants really hard, too, so I think it’s understandable. Frankly, I wish I could help out!
