The offerings here ar... read more It was a struggle to decide between two and three stars for this review. However, due to its high altitude, I’ll give it a bit of a boost. The offerings here aren’t fancy, but they’ll satisfy basic snack cravings. The pizza was quite unappetizing, but the chicken nuggets and fries are decent enough. At 6,288 feet, you can’t be too picky. While the food isn’t gourmet, you can grab chips, soda, and my son discovered some interesting sour apple candy. Prices are on the higher side, but that’s to be expected in a tourist spot. Fortunately, they didn’t overcharge us like some other attractions do, although I can only imagine how challenging that would be at such a summit. The furniture is old, and service can be slow, especially when the crowds are large. If you find yourself at the top of the mountain, this place will provide you with some necessary calories.

However, I pe... read more Some hikers often express frustration about the commercialization at the summit and the sight of tourists opting to ride or drive up the mountain. However, I personally appreciate having a warm building and hot food available after a long trek, and we can thank the tourists for making that possible. I’m not sure how frequently the menu changes, but I visited a couple of times over two years, and it was the same each time. They offer hot pizza, chili, soups, cold sandwiches in a refrigerator case, as well as various snacks, fruits, drinks, hot coffee, and hot chocolate. The food quality is likely decent if you drove up, quite good if you hiked in pleasant weather, and absolutely fantastic if you endured harsh winds and freezing temperatures to reach the summit. I've experienced the delightful version of this meal, so my perspective may be influenced by the circumstances. Paying $12 for a slice of pizza, a bowl of chili, a banana, and coffee seemed very reasonable to me. Just a heads up, the cafeteria is cash only (as of September 2018), and finding a seat can be tricky if it’s crowded.
