Los Pinos - Jackson
Los Pinos
Description
Tucked into Jackson, this Mexican spot earns praise for authentic, affordable dishes—from steak burritos and taco salads to homemade tortillas, salsas and standout desserts—served in a family-friendly, casual setting. Staff are warm and accommodating, often managing a busy dining room alone, but service can be slow; long waits are frequently reported. Patrons praise flavor and portion value, and the menu accepts substitutions for varied tastes. Note: there have been reports of intermittent closures, exterior storm damage and an unreliable phone line, so call ahead before visiting.

The website indicates that this restaurant is open, but when I arrived, it felt completely deserted. It looks like it might have suffered some damage from Hurricane Ida. The door was open, but there was no one inside, which was a bit unnerving. I really hope they reopen because the food was excellent.
We ordered a chicken burrito with a side of fries, and I have to say the burrito was delicious. The fries were decent, though they could have used a bit of salt—on the plus side, that allows you to control how salty you want them. We also tried the beef fajitas; the rice and beans were subtly flavored, which I appreciated as it let the true taste of the food shine through, rather than being overwhelmed by heavy seasonings. The dish came with corn tortillas, which I'm not typically a fan of, but theirs were quite good. Overall, the food was tasty, and I liked that they don’t overdo the seasoning, as it reminded me of the way we cook back home. Because of that, I would definitely order from here again. Don’t be put off by the closed door—they’re just adjusting to the changes brought about by COVID. Just be patient, give them a call, and place your order if you’re craving something delicious. Or, if you’re looking for something quick, you could always head to Taco Bell.
