My favorite Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. I've been here more than 15 times and I'm still amazed by how good it is. Plenty of vegan options, too. Edit: i still think the food is great but, unfortunately, the service is not. After pointing out that we've been waiting for our food much longer than people who came after us and ordered similar dishes, we were told it's our fault because we asked if we could sit outside. Come on!
Came here for the first time and had a blast experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They even warned me about street parking. I'm a new Yorker but to this local. I thought the parking was usually free after 7pm, however, the street that I parked was actually free after 10pm. I avoided getting a ticket thanks to the staff. The food was the bomb! Love everything I ordered. That warm gulab jamun and ice cream for the dessert brought me a fully pleased closure.
The poori bhaji at Samudra is TO DIE FOR. They have a wonderful tomato chutney and their idli is delicious. Highly recommend!

I really want to be supportive of this place, but it was an absolute let down. Was a walk in at around 2 on a Sat afternoon and the place wasn't busy at all. The friendly owner got us seated right away as we placed our order. We should have stuck with the South Indian classics, but our hunger made us order the Gobi Manchurian $15) which was an absolute embarrassment to this Indo Chinese legend. It was deep friend Cauli with tomato sauce mixed just terrible. The smiling Jake Gyllenhaal pictures at the entrance were equally deceptive! The Butter Masala Dosa $11) and Medhu Vada $7) were acceptable, while the Paneer Dosa $11.49) was literally served with Paneer that looked like it was grated with the one brought from nearby grocery store. Really wanted to be supportive of this family run business, but our food was just a complete miss unfortunately. Service was quick, and food arrived within 15 mins of ordering. Service: Dine in Price per person: $10–20 Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3 Recommended dishes: Butter Masala Dosa Vegetarian offerings: Menu is all vegetarian
