Stumbled across this great palce whislt walking around Issoire. It is really a cheese and wine emporium where you can while away your lucnh time or whatever eating cheese. Stopped off in Issoire on the way South. We ventured into the old town to look around the abbey (cloaked in scaffolding and being renovated) and the clock tower (smaller than I imagined). Found Phil’s Fromagerie and found a warm welcome, a great selection of cheese, charcuterie and wine/beer to accompany. After discussing our likes/dislikes Phil brought out a fantastic high tea of cheese, bread, meat and fruit and a local ‘fruity’ IPA which hit the spot as we tucked in watching the world go by on his pavement seating area. Search it out if like me you are partial to the odd ‘morsel of cheese’!
With my wife and 2 friends, we visited the Fromagerie, Phil' à Fromages. It was an excellent experience. The owner was there to offer advice on the cheese's plus the wines that complemented them. The shop itself is beautifully laid out. This is understandable a popular venue so for meals booking is advised, except on Fridays in the summer when it is essential because, on Friday nights there is a fair/fete/social gathering in Issoire which is quite charming. So combined with Phil's good food this is a great evening/night out.
The pictures on here so far do not do this place justice! It is a bright, airy shop with tables at the back heading into a bar space. The options were simple, €15 pp for a tonne of cheese and charcuterie or just cheese if you prefer! The waitress took time to ask what we liked and didn't like, where the cheese would come from etc then Phil talked us through them when they arrived. So much food and unlimited bread yet we still found space for tiramisu one of the best i've tried. Wine was stupidly cheap for the quality, €3 per glass, again with our waitress guiding us to the right choice. Not to be missed, do book ahead, but bring a jumper as all the fridges leave the room a little cold!

Phil is a nice guy can't talk much English but we managed, lots of french people with their families coming in and out. Really great lunch time of cheese
A great concept! taste a superb board of cheese and charcuterie on the terrace.Perfect for a friendly moment between friends without a head-up.Even no need to choose because it is the cheesemaker that according to your desires offers you different assortments. Very good address and very friendly staff
