What Jennifer B doesn't like about Ocean Blue Quay:
Does this venue have new management? We attended yesterday and there was a board outside saying snacks 3 until 5. It was 4 minutes past 3. We were told no, they close at 330 and it was subject to weather. The sun was out and it was warm. We then asked for a milky coffee done in the microwave which we have always been served here for years very willingly. No and we close at 330. So we asked if we could sit outside wit... My friends and I visited the restaurant on Wednesday, 7/9/2021, and were warmly welcomed by the staff, who all appeared to be very cheerful. I ordered fish and chips with mushy peas and enjoyed a latte while waiting for our food to arrive. My friends ordered different dishes, with one of them opting for a delicious crab baguette. None of us had any complaints about the food or the atmosphere. My fish dish was exceptional and could have easily served two people, but somehow I managed to finish it all by myself. The fish was perfectly cooked with a crispy golden brown batter. We initially sat outside but had to move indoors due to a heavy rainstorm just before our food was brought out. However, this did not cause any inconvenience to us or the restaurant staff. If you find yourself in Ventnor and in need of a meal, I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. I will definitely be returning on my next trip to the island.
I haven't had fish and chips of this good quality in a while. The cod was incredibly fresh, the batter was crispy, and even the chips were excellent. The portion was also very generous - our lady friends couldn't finish it all. Overall, discovering this restaurant was a pleasant surprise.
We stumbled across this place after having our sights set at stopping at somewhere else. If the other place had actually serve fish and chips, our daughter request for today, we wouldn’t have even stopped here! The take away on the quay was closed however they advertised that their fish was served here. We managed to locate a table at 12:45 on a gloriously hot day and move it into the shade. There isn’t much shade here and none of the outside tables had parasols. There was different fish on the menu to choose from including other options too including burgers and lighter bites. We ordered a children’s cod and chips, with option of peas on the side, a battered Haven cod and chips and a pan fried cod (so suitable for my food allergies) and chips. With 2 bottle soft drinks as our daughters drink should have been included in the child’s price the meal cost us £38. We did think this was a little steep given the price we had paid for much larger pieces of fish just the other day else where, but the experience of being here with the paddling pool for our daughter to splash around in softened the dent in the wallet. The fish was fresh despite there not being much of it and the chips I have to say were chips. They’re not what I call chip shop chips, so weren’t as greasy as you’d expect (which I prefer) although certainly lacked taste. For the price we paid, would we go back? Probably not. Maybe we would try over the road which had opened by the time we left.
Stopped here at the end of a 10 mile walk along the coastal path. Needed a good piece of cake and boy did they deliver, the best lemon sponge ever.

So we asked if we could sit outside with a coffee well yes but we close at 330. No sorry or anything. We’ve been going to this place for more years than I care to remember and have always had a warm welcome. What a shame. We went up the road to the Smoking Lobster and sat outside in the sun with a lovely coffee until 430 and they were very courteous. I’m really disappointed in the Ocean Blue.
