What Mark Crystal doesn't like about Hen House Grill:
The biggest turnoff was seeing straight tap water from sink being used for tea. See uploaded image. Why not spend a couple of grand on a nice water filtration system for the restaurant? I suppose the owner felt the customers can’t tell or taste the difference after eating the food lol.. The Japanese in Japan actually have a special filter for tea, coffee and rice. The biggest disappointment was seeing regular tap water being used for the tea. Just take a look at the image I uploaded. Why not invest a few thousand dollars in a quality water filtration system for the restaurant? It seems the owner believes customers won't notice or taste the difference after enjoying the food, which is quite amusing. In Japan, they actually use specialized filters for tea, coffee, and rice—three different types of water filters! Yet here in Irvine, they’re using plain tap water, and the local tap water is recycled from sinks to fill the tea containers??
I've been visiting this restaurant for over a decade, even when it was in a different location. The quality of the food remains excellent, just as it has always been. The koobideh is the standout dish, but the kale pache will pleasantly surprise you too! Food: 5/5
I've been making the trek from San Diego to Irvine just to enjoy the kale pache at Hen House for many years now. I truly appreciate their wonderful, warm, and friendly staff who always make me feel welcome. Over the years, I've sampled everything on their menu, and it just keeps getting better and better!
While The Hen Grill may not have an extravagant ambiance, it makes up for it with its warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff members are friendly, attentive, and more than willing to guide you through the menu, making your dining experience all the more enjoyable. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re dining with family, surrounded by the comforting aromas of Persian spices and the sound of lively conversations.Whether you’re a fan of Persian cuisine or new to it, The Hen Grill is a must-visit. It may lack the glitz and glamour of upscale restaurants, but it more than compensates with its exceptional food and genuine hospitality. The passion and love that goes into each dish are evident, leaving you with a memorable dining experience that will keep you coming back for more. So, if you’re in Irvine and craving authentic Persian flavors, head over to The Hen Grill. Indulge in their mouthwatering koobideh with freshly baked bread, savor the hearty dizi, and let the warm atmosphere and friendly staff transport you to the heart of Iran. You won’t be disappointed!
Just ate here for 2nd time. I hate it when kabobs sit in the back and come out not hot. Ate half of it and left. I did notice other orders came out hot. Sad that mine was probably sitting for 5 min before being served..I was by the counter and picked up asap but still not hot. I may try a 3rd time but probably not..many other choices in town. Taste was just ok..ordered the beef koobideh. Price is ok $13 for a single skewer and bread. The side salad at $9 is expensive but decently fresh..though clearly sat in a fridge for a while. The bread is good.
