I would rate this restaurant higher if I could, because I would give it 5 stars solely for the food. But that's not the entire experience! To cap it off the service was very personal and prompt. The menu selection was diverse without being overwhelming. There were flights offered to sample the different beers. It seems very clear to me that Hickies wants it's customers to enjoy their dining experience in a very invlusive way. There isn't the pompusness I see in most places of this caliber. They don't give their dishes french names and give a smirk if you ask questions. Even if you don't quite know what you want, Hickies will help you find it. Then there's the pub itself. Which has a classic atmosphere that's seen all over, but if you take the time to look at the posters and plaques and memories on the walls, the charm of the place will leave you with special endearment. I love this place and can't wait to visit again.
Go. Here. I cannot believe this place only has one review so far. It was the best food I had in two weeks of eating out (for every meal) all over Ireland. The atmosphere was relaxed and cozy, the staff was friendly, but not too in-your-face, which I appreciate. But wow, the FOOD. Their ingredients, particularly meats and fish, are sourced locally and taste incredibly fresh. I wish I'd been hungrier when we went, because I only ordered the Caesar salad (which had lots of meat and Parmesan, and probably would have been filling enough if I had been hungry), but my husband ordered the pork roast from the daily specials menu, and it was out of this world. Whoever the chef is, knows what they're doing, because it was probably the best pork I've ever had... but you'd never expect that from the price!
Great burgers and very friendly staff. I will absolutly return if I have the oppertunity.
