What Scott Lawrence dislikes about Vivilore:
Definitely not the same since new ownership. My pasta special was a disaster. Hardly any customers in the place on a Saturday night. Gardens/Patio are not maintained like before. Sad to see how it has went downhill so quickly. View all feedback.

The service was fantastic, and our waitress was outstanding! The food options were excellent, and we had a wonderful time. We dressed up and enjoyed a tea party in the garden, which is stunningly beautiful! There was even a lady there to take pictures for us. It’s a perfect spot for lunch, and I hear that reservations are required, adding to the elegant atmosphere. Inside, there's a shop with a variety of eclectic items.
When it was time to order, I found it difficult to choose from the menu, where most items ranged from $16 to $30. This was a bit more than I had expected, but still reasonable. Wanting something light, I opted for the salmon and herbed cream cheese bruschetta, minus the bread due to my gluten intolerance. My companion ordered a house-made chicken salad sandwich with a side of potato salad. The portion sizes justified the prices completely. My dish featured four thinly rolled slices of salmon with cream cheese, served over shredded romaine, topped with house-made pickles, pickled red onion, sliced hard-boiled egg, crumbled goat cheese, and capers. It was accompanied by a slice of orange and watermelon. The chicken salad came on thick, toasted bread, also served with fruit and pickles. We both enjoyed the pickles, though we agreed they were a bit too spicy. We considered dessert, but since we were already taking half our meals home, we decided to pass. Dessert options included lemon cake with mascarpone filling, flourless chocolate torte, or crème brûlée.
The service and food at Vivilore were excellent! The menu is a bit on the pricey side, but every now and then, it's worth treating yourself. Plus, their gift shop is packed with a variety of unique antiques.
I ordered the seafood special, and it was fantastic—probably the best scallops I've ever tasted. My daughter opted for a huge salad that was really impressive, and the crab cakes were tasty as well. A delightful surprise was the Old Fashioned my mother-in-law ordered; it was easily twice the size of those we've had at other similarly priced restaurants lately. Others at our table enjoyed chicken and various other dishes, but what really stood out to me was the personal touch the restaurant offers. Our server—who I’m pretty sure served us years ago—genuinely cared about the place, bringing a warmth and intimacy that’s often missing in casual upscale dining. Many restaurants feel sterile and insincere, don’t they? As a sweet gesture, they placed a candle in a crème brûlée to celebrate my daughter’s birthday, which I found very thoughtful. The quality of the food was a wonderful surprise for a spot in Independence, and we truly appreciated it. We’ll definitely be back!

This place is a hidden treasure! If you haven't visited yet, you're really missing out. The seating both indoors and outdoors is fantastic. Be sure to try their mushroom cheesecake—it's absolutely amazing. I've loved everything I've tried here. After your meal, make sure to visit the shop above the restaurant; it has a variety of fun and unique items.
Parking was easy to navigate but there is speeding in small spaces, so be careful. There was only 1 server outside when I arrived and he was on it the entire time. Outside was stunning and beautiful. My drink was super strong and a little unappealing. I ordered the lobster roll and carrots. Everything was bland and could have used some seasoning. Unfortunately, it was all lackluster for me and it was more costly then what I would normally do.
The food and service were wonderful as always, but unfortunately it appears the new owners are not gardeners. Many of the plantings and pots were wilted and dried up. Hopefully it's just a learning curve.
Nice dining experience. The food was very good and well presented. Our server was very attentive and she was very knowledgeable of the menu. Now .....I have to add this. Why were there no prices on the beverage listing? Getting a little pretentious here maybe? High class place where if you have to wonder the price of a drink then perhaps you probably can't afford to come here?

Worst service ever! As we walked to the podium to check in, the hostess took a phone call and we were forced to stand there for several minutes (long enough for four people to try to get by us, because their hosting stand is placed in the worst possible location). Once the phone call was over, we gave our name and the hostess looked at her book for some time, highlighting various things before finally showing us to the table. It was approximately 20 minutes before a waitress came and took our drink order. She took our dinner order and we ordered an appetizer of bread service, because they charge for that, which we never received. I had to eat some snacks from my purse because I was starving, and we considered leaving, but our food finally came as we were standing up to leave, about 30-35 minutes after ordering. Our food was only OK, not disgusting, but not particularly noteworthy, certainly not worth the exorbitant prices. We were provided butter knives to cut our meat! We wolfed down our food as we were starving by this time, and our waitress never returned. My husband went to the bathroom and ran into the waitress and asked for our check. She said she would be right there, but, par for the course, never returned, so we went to the front and were told that she had to leave because of a family emergency. We were to believe that in the time it took for my husband to use the bathroom, about 2 minutes, she received the news that she had a family emergency, decided she had to leave precipitously, communicated with the other staff the remaining needs for her tables, and left. My husband forgot to check if we were charged for the bread service because we were in such a hurry to leave, but I am sure that the charge was tacked on. I would not be surprised if there was also a charge for the water. Just a dismal experience, would not recommend unless you really enjoy terrible service and mediocre food. If that 's your jam, this place is for you!

When it was time to order, I found myself facing a tough decision. The menu prices ranged from $16 to $30, which was a bit higher than I expected but still reasonable considering the offerings. I chose the salmon with herb cream cheese bruschetta, omitting the bread since I'm gluten-free. My dining companion ordered a homemade chicken salad sandwich with a side of potato salad. The portion sizes completely justified the prices. My dish included four thin slices of salmon rolled with cream cheese (the server mentioned the kitchen had fun preparing it) on a bed of crushed Romaine, along with homemade pickles, pickled red onion, sliced hard-boiled egg, crushed goat cheese, and capers. The plate was also garnished with a slice of orange and watermelon. My companion’s chicken salad was generous, served on thick, toasted bread, and accompanied by fruit and pickles. We both found the pickles to be delicious, though a bit on the spicy side. Although we were tempted by dessert, we decided to take half of our meals home and forego dessert. The dessert options included lemon cake with mascarpone filling, flourless chocolate cake, and crème brûlée.
One of the highlights was the size of the Old Fashioned cocktail my mother-in-law ordered; it was noticeably larger than those at other casual dining places we've been to recently. Other members of our group had chicken and several different dishes, but I really appreciated the personal touch of this restaurant. Our server, who I believe was the same one from our past visit years ago, showed genuine care for both the establishment and its customers, creating an intimate and unique experience that is often missing in more casual upscale settings. Rather than feeling sterile or forced, the ambiance was warm and welcoming. They even surprised my daughter with a candle in her crème brûlée for her birthday, which I thought was a wonderful gesture. The quality of the food surpassed my expectations, especially for an independent restaurant. We are definitely looking forward to returning!
Service and food were wonderful! A little expensive, but sometimes you just have to pamper. Your gift shop is filled with all kinds of cool antiques.
Best dining experience EVER! The food is superb and the atmosphere is outstanding! We are going to put this in our permanent dining rotation! The antique shopping is wonderful and then top it off with a stroll through their garden courtyard. Perfection all the way around!
