I opted for brisket as my second meat, and my all-beef large sandwich with pickles was fantastic. My wife and sister also ordered the Turkey Nooner and enjoyed it as well. I have no complaints about Gates BBQ and can't understand why it sometimes receives low ratings. Over the years, I've probably dined at all the Gates locations more than 50 times, and I’ve never left disappointed. I proudly place Gates among the top tier of Kansas City BBQ. As a cornerstone of Kansas City's rich BBQ heritage, Gates continues to take pride in its legacy over the past eight decades.

When we co... read more My daughter and I visited this restaurant around 7 PM, and it was truly disappointing. The staff were incredibly rude, and we were served burnt ribs. When we complained, the person in the back was unhelpful and seemed disinterested in his job. The onion rings were also burnt, and the fries were cold and hard. This was the second time we had a bad experience here, and we spent $100 on what felt like inedible food. It’s frustrating to spend that much money and still leave hungry. Additionally, the staff should be more professional; using inappropriate language in front of customers is very disrespectful. Overall, this experience was not worth it, and I will not be returning. It’s disappointing to see such a lack of care for customers. You've lost my business for good.

As for the food this won't be for everyone, gates sauce is Sriracha based which is fine if you like Sriracha. They do have a sweet and mild sauce that Ididn't try, maybe that would make it better. Overall it was fine food with fun people. I say give it a shot.

I'm more a fan of the cubed competition style burnt ends as I think the chopped relies on sauces to carry it...but I digress. Itwas very did and the sandwich was MASSIVE! I went to Gates 20 years ago and after going back, I won't let 20 yrs go by againwithout going back. I'll have to try the rest of the menu! The fries and beans were awesome though!
