Truly a treasure for locals? great food, ambiance, and drinks. The succulently fried chicken sandwich and brewed-on-the-premise beer pair perfectly with the click-clack of the commuter trains rolling by. The owner is local so they care about the community? and they don?t skimp on crab in the crab dip, which is a sign of a trustworthy Maryland local. And if you want to know what Cracker Barrel wishes its general store... View all feedback.
The food was pretty good...I wish that the cocktail menu was a bit more extensive. We had a soft pretzel, crab dip, cocktails, and bread pudding for dessert.
We have been going to Franklins for 20+ years, and it is still a really great experience! Recently we went because we saw their NEW outdoor area under the bridge. It is great to be outside!!! See my pics of the plantings around the seating area ? so well done! I ordered the muscles, which are an old standby, but they changed the recipe. PLEASE GO BACK TO THE OLD RECIPE!!! Still the best food at the best prices and service around!
Prices have risen significantly recently, which is understandable, but what I wasn’t prepared for was the noticeable decrease in portion sizes. The fish and chips (see photo below) included only about 4 ounces of fish, with the majority being batter. The burger I ordered tasted good, but the bun fell apart as soon as I touched it, and there were no condiments on either the table or the plate. Our server was pleasant, but this visit felt like an overpriced experience at Applebee's. We might return in the future, but given the current economic climate, I can't rationalize spending $60 on a dinner like this. (From 9/2021) Franklins is one of the very few truly locally owned restaurants in the area, and I’ve enjoyed dining there more than ten times over the past two years. It’s the only restaurant in Hyattsville that consistently offers a quality dining experience along with a unique atmosphere. The dining area is rustic and vibrant, adorned with artwork from local independent artists. They also have a general store that sells novelties, candy, beer, and other assorted items. Dinner for two outdoors on a Friday evening was excellent. Parking can be a bit tricky, but we were seated in a reasonable period. The service was efficient and courteous. The rail drinks were well-prepared and quite affordable. Their Tiki Menu features specialty cocktails that are perfect for al fresco dining. The beer menu showcases house-brewed options to suit whatever preference you might have. The main menu is thoughtfully curated, offering enough variety to please most palates without being overwhelming. Most of the meat is sourced locally or regionally, and each dish has its own unique flair. While the dessert choices are limited, they are of very high quality, never too sweet or overpowering, and served in generous portions. Overall, Franklins provides the best restaurant experience in the area, aside from traveling to Annapolis or College Park. I had dinner at this restaurant with a friend last week, and overall, it was a great experience. The food was really good; we specifically came to try the spinach dip, and it definitely lived up to our expectations. For my main dish, I ordered the quinoa and spinach bowl, which was absolutely amazing—I'm still thinking about it! However, the service could have been improved; we only saw our server a few times during dinner, and he seemed like he wasn't very happy in his job. I can understand that, but it did impact our overall experience a bit.
The food and beer are consistently excellent. As for parking, it is available for a fee of just $0.50 per hour. I dined in for lunch, and the price per person was between $10 and $20. I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere all at 5 out of 5. There is plenty of parking available, with paid parking lot options.
