What Kariane Kunde doesn't like about Black Pepper:
I had the Butter Chicken & naan bread. Also came with brocolli (sp?) soup. Soup was very good - something in it that made it much better than your usual brocolli soup. Great so far. Was a little disappointed in the butter chicken though. Not buttery at all - quite rubbery I'm afraid and only 5 smaller pieces. Spices good but I should have asked for some more heat - maybe ok for those who don't want it spicey. Naan br... View all feedback.
Had the lamb curry with garlic naan bread and had to take some home. Second time there and it was awesome.
We stopped for a late lunch at Black Pepper on our way through Humboldt. The place was empty when we arrived but we were seated and our order was taken. Since biryani with raitha was the posted special, we made that our order along with some naan. The biryani arrived without the raitha so our server went back to find/make some. A while later it arrived. The biryani was dry and the chicken sparse. The raitha and naan were both quite good. Our server appeared to be the only other person in the place besides us, so we went and found him in the kitchen when it came time to pay.Unfortunately it was not the kind of food that would encourage a second visit.
We are not from humboldt just a passing by, Me and my friends decided to try here, since they offer variety of cuisine. Sad to say, we didn't get what we've expected :( waited for almost an hour. Food was just fine not great. Not bad at all, just didn't meet what we expected and heard.
Four us arrived for lunch. My brother and his wife advised us that the buffets were excellent however this is not a daily feature and we had no choice but to go via the menu. We then noticed East Indian food on the menus and all four of us decided to give this a try. We were not disappointed. My wife's chicken with mango sauce was determined by us to be the best of four different plates ordered but they were all really good. One item I would caution visitors on is the serving plates. They are large and they come cold, not heated. However the rice comes in a oval bowl so we then set the oval bowl on the large plates and spread the meat with sauce on top of the rice. This was our first experience with East Indian food and we certainly enjoyed it and will eat here in the future. The spicing was just right for us but the East Indian owner advised us that one could ask for more spicing if one so desires.
They have a great supper buffet and the naan is excellent! i wouldn't order a bunch of the "Canadian" food. when we got a steak it wasn't done the way it had been asked to be down. however the Indian food is amazing. Great bang for the buck i would recommend the buffet
